Job summary

Job description

Direct Support Professional for a home serving male residents. Due to the personal care needs of the residents, being male is a bona fide occupational qualification for this position.

What This Job Looks Like

This is an active role, and much of it happens outside the house. The men in this home love being out in the community, especially walking and spending time outdoors, so your days will regularly include outings, walks, and community activities around Prince William County. You should be comfortable driving throughout the county and know your way around it. Inside the home, you will support daily routines: personal care, meals, medications as trained, keeping the home clean and comfortable, and completing documentation each shift.

The most important part of this job is the relationships. We are looking for someone who takes the time to genuinely get to know each individual, what he enjoys, what helps him have a good day, and what support he needs when a day gets hard. Our residents do best with staff who are patient, calm, and consistent, and experience supporting individuals with behavior support plans is essential for this position.

What You Bring

At least one year of experience supporting individuals with developmental disabilities, including experience implementing behavior support plans. Patience and a calm, steady presence. Flexibility with daily plans and schedules. A high school diploma or equivalent. The physical ability to assist individuals safely, walk and stay active in the community, and handle routine household tasks. A valid driver's license with a clean driving record is required, and comfort driving throughout Prince William County is a must.

Training and Screening

CPR/AED, First Aid, Medication Administration, Behavior Management, Person-Centered Thinking, and Human Rights training are completed within 30 days of hire if not already current, and we provide them. Employment requires a criminal background check, CPS registry search, TB screening, and drug screening.
