Job summary

• Assist/monitor/teach individuals with daytime activity preparation and encourage good personal hygiene
• Meet with individuals individually to discuss concerns and problems
• Supervise individuals in on-site and off-site activities
• Handle emergency situations appropriately
• Utilize crisis interventions when necessary
• Complete required documentation and provide first-aid assistance as needed
• Ensure individuals follow routines
• Perform other duties as assigned by management
• Report suspected abuse and neglect to supervisor within one hour
• Transport individuals to and from community outings
• Must hold a NYS driver’s license for at least three years for full-time consideration

Status: Full Time and Per Diem

Salary: $18.50 – $19.00 per hour

Direct Support Professionals are responsible for maintaining a safe, supportive, and therapeutic environment which fosters growth and rehabilitation and facilitates the development of mutual aid/self-help skills among individuals. Staff’s primary role is to provide the appropriate supports tailored to the needs and desires of each individual to enable each to live as independently as possible. Direct Support Professionals are expected to recognize when an individual is in a crisis and be able to utilize the appropriate interventions. This position is Non-Exempt. DSPs report directly to the Program Coordinator.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist/monitor/teach individuals with preparation of daytime activities; encourage good personal hygiene
• Meet with individuals (as needed) on an individual basis to discuss concerns, problems
• Supervise individuals in on and off site activities
• Handle emergency situations appropriately
• Utilize crisis interventions when necessary
• Complete required documentationProvide first-aid assistance to all individuals and assist in the follow through on medical needs for individuals
• Assure individuals follow routines
• Performs any other duties as assigned by the Manager, Asst. Manager, and Administration
• Report suspected abuse & neglect to supervisor immediately (within one hour)
• Transport individuals to and from community outings
• Must hold valid NYS Driver’s license for a minimum of three years to be considered for full time positions.
