Job Summary

The Direct Support Professional works on an interdisciplinary team that delivers superior quality of service and provides appropriate activities in a safe and healthy environment within the home and community setting.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist clients in basic living skills and daily personal tasks, including showers, dressing, housekeeping, grocery shopping, meal preparation and planning, and financial budgeting.
  • Provide transportation to and from activities and appointments as needed; a valid Arkansas Driver's License is required.
  • Maintain good communication via appropriate means (facility logbook, staff meetings, etc.) regarding clients' needs and progress towards their plan of care.
  • Accurately complete all required documentation (behavioral reports, incident reports, compliance forms, personal care worksheets, requisitions, maintenance forms, progress reports, monthly attendance logs, etc.) as required by FCC.
  • Strictly follow and complete necessary documentation for FTA vehicles, maintaining mileage/billing forms in compliance with Medicaid guidelines.
  • Report incidents and/or emergencies to supervisors or delegated authorities immediately; this is a safety-sensitive position.
  • Assist in the formulation, management, revision, and follow-through of the client’s Plan of Care, ensuring treatment is carried out and that health, safety, and security are prioritized.
  • Follow proper medication management guidelines and assist in monitoring and documenting these procedures.
  • Organize and carry out recreational activities for clients.
  • Model good behavior for clients through appropriate physical appearance, adherence to FCC’s dress code, and appropriate actions.
  • Treat the client and their families with dignity and respect; represent FCC and its mission.
  • Maintain FCC facilities and grounds, keeping them clean, orderly, and functioning.
  • Assist in the maintenance of FCC vehicles, ensuring cleanliness and regular preventive maintenance.
  • Attend necessary training and continue education.
  • Provide proof of liability insurance and keep it current.
  • May be required to undergo periodic driving tests and demonstrate proficiency in operating motor vehicles, including passenger vans; employees may also be required to drive their personal vehicle at times with adequate liability coverage.
  • Assure confidentiality of all information received regarding Friendship Community Care, Inc. and the clients; comply with Friendship Community Care Non-Disclosure Policy and HIPAA policies.
Quality Assurance & Compliance
  • Adhere to the Code of Conduct and Compliance Investigation Procedures as discussed in the new employee training.
  • Maintain and complete consumers’ progress notes daily or as needed on prescribed forms.
  • Maintain consumers’ records weekly, monthly, quarterly, and yearly; file and update all information as prescribed by funding sources.

Physical Demands

The employee is regularly required to use hands to handle objects, talk, and hear; frequently stand, walk, reach, sit; occasionally lift or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Qualifications
  • Education: High school diploma or GED, or two+ years' experience working with developmentally disabled individuals.
  • Must have a valid Arkansas driver's license.
  • Language Skills: Read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos; write simple correspondence; present information effectively in one‑on‑one and small group situations to customers, clients, and employees.
  • Mathematical/Computer Skills: Add, subtract, multiply, divide in all units of measure; compute rates, ratios, percentages; interpret bar graphs.
  • Reasoning Ability: Apply commonsense to carry out written, oral, or diagram instructions; interpret varied instructions.
