Job summary

YAI in Queens, NY is hiring a Direct Support Professional to provide direct care to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities across homes, day programs, and community settings. You will support daily living activities, assist with personal care, and help implement treatment plans in collaboration with the team.

Responsibilities include documenting progress, participating in trainings, promoting independence, and facilitating community integration.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED preferred.
• I/DD field experience is a plus, DSP 2 requires 1-2 years.
• Valid NY State Driver’s License may be required depending on the position.
• Tuberculosis test is mandatory for most positions.

• Provide direct care services including counseling, ADLs training, personal care, medical, dietary, social, recreational and other needs.
• Ensure health, safety, and wellness of the people we support.
• Support with intimate care functions.
• Build and maintain positive relationships.
• Participate in development of treatment plans.
• Crisis intervention and management.
• Complete mandatory trainings (AMAP, CPR/First Aid, SCIP-R, Defensive Driving).
• Meet and demonstrate OPWDD Core Competencies.
• Assist people we support in maximizing strengths, interests, and abilities.
• Facilitate community integration, recreational activities and socialization.
• Complete documentation for compliance and billing.
• Train/present to a team.
• Take on additional tasks as needed.

Education

High School Diploma or GED

DSPs work closely with people of all ages who have intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD).Depending on the supports needed, DSPs may work in a person’s home, in their family’s home, in a YAI residence, at a day habilitation center, or out in the community.

Key Responsibilities:

• To provide direct care services as needed. Education and Experience:

• High School Diploma or GED preferred.

• Work or life experience in the I/DD field is a plus, but not mandatory (for DSP 1 positions).For DSP 2 positions, at least 1-2 years workexperience in the I/DD field.

• Valid NY StateDriver’s Licensemay be required depending uponthe position.

• Tuberculosis test is mandatory for most positions.

Location:

• Hollis Hills, Queens (Hollis Hills IRA)

Schedule:

• Full-time, part-time, weekday and/or weekend positions available - including morning , evening, and overnight schedules.

Compensation:

• $16.50/hour to $18.00/hour (depending on experience)
