Job summary

Alleghany Highlands Community Services seeks a Direct Support Professional to assist adults with intellectual disabilities at our Friendship house. The role uses teaching techniques to foster independence and skills acquisition in a congregate setting.

Requirements include a high school diploma or GED, a valid driver's license, CPR/First Aid, and medication administration certification (or obtained on hire). Experience in human services is preferred.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Two years of experience in a human service field preferred.
• Valid Driver's License required.
• Certification in CPR, First Aid, and medication administration required (can be obtained upon hire).

Responsibilities

• Provide supervision, support, counseling, and training in daily living activities as per service plan.
• Assist and train in personal care.
• Empower individuals toward self-determination, community involvement and recovery.
• Ensure health and safety of individuals.
• Communicate status or behavior changes to all staff.

Alleghany Highlands Community Services provides services and support to individuals in our community with behavioral health challenges and intellectual and developmental disabilities. The Direct Support Professional, (DSP) provides services to adults with intellectual disabilities in a congregate setting at our Friendship house. The position uses a variety of teaching techniques and strategies designed to facilitate independence and skills acquisition.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Provide supervision, support, counseling, and training in activities of daily living to individuals in accordance with their service plan.
• Provide assistance and training in personal care.
• Focus on the needs and preferences of the individual; empower and support the individual in defining the direction of their life; and promote self-determination, community involvement and recovery.
• Ensure optimal health and safety of individuals.
• Communicate any changes in status or behavior to all staff providing services to the individual.

Salary

Salary: $18 - $19.50 per hour
