Job summary

The Arc of Bristol County in North Smithfield, RI, is seeking a Direct Support Professional to provide direct assistance to individuals with disabilities, supporting daily living, independence, and community participation. You will document care, coordinate with supervisors, transport as needed, and help individuals exercise their rights while ensuring safety.

Requires high school diploma, 18+, background checks, and driving.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• At least 18 years of age.
• Two years’ experience working with people with disabilities preferred.
• Safe driving record, valid driver’s license, personal vehicle, and current motor vehicle liability insurance required.
• Ability to pass background checks.

Responsibilities

• Supports individuals to identify goals and achieve them.
• Supports individuals to increase independence at home and in the community.
• Helps individuals participate in activities and develop social relationships.
• Assists individuals to develop communication skills and self-advocacy.
• Provides transportation as needed.
• Completes daily timesheets and progress notes in a timely manner.

Direct Support Professionals provide direct assistance and support services to address the needs of individuals with disabilities. The Direct Support Professional (DSP) reports directly to and receives support and supervision from their supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications

• High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma required
• At least 18 years of age
• Two years’ experience working with people with disabilities preferred
• Safe driving record, current driver’s license, personal vehicle, and current motor vehicle liability insurance required
• Ability to successfully pass all background checks.

• Encourages and respects choice‑making in all areas of life and, when needed informs individuals of the natural consequences of choices made.
• Supports individuals in achieving and maintaining their own personal safety and well‑being.
• Provides transportation as needed.
• Completes needed documentation, including daily timesheet and corresponding progress note, in a timely manner.
• Participates in routine established for support and supervision with the direct supervisor.
