Job summary

Resources for Human Development (RHD) is seeking a Direct Support Professional to provide direct care for individuals with disabilities in residential and community settings. The role focuses on promoting independence, safety, and personal goals in a supportive environment.

Position emphasizes compassionate, patient care, documentation, and teamwork with families and providers. Completion of trainings and background checks required; driving and transportation are often needed.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required (additional education in human services or related field preferred).
• Previous experience in direct support, caregiving, or human services preferred.
• Compassionate, patient, and reliable with a strong desire to help others.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities

Position Summary

The Direct Support Professional (DSP) plays a vital role in enhancing the quality of life for individuals with disabilities. DSPs provide direct care, promote independence, and support individuals in achieving their personal goals in a safe and supportive environment.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Assist individuals with activities of daily living, including personal care, meal preparation, and household tasks.

Additional Requirements

• Valid driver’s license with a minimum of 3 years driving experience and reliable transportation.
• Ability to pass background checks, including criminal history and driver’s record check.
• Ability to obtain and maintain required clearances, including child abuse clearance (if applicable).
• CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift, transfer, and support individuals as needed (up to 50 lbs).
• Frequent standing, walking, bending, and assisting with mobility.
• Work performed in residential and community-based settings.
