Job summary

Devereux Advanced Behavioral Health in New Jersey is seeking a Direct Support Professional to help adults with autism and developmental disabilities build independence and daily living skills, while participating more fully in their communities.

You will join a collaborative team, receive ongoing training and supervision, and have opportunities for growth through ASCEND and a comprehensive benefits package.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Valid drivers license.
  • At least 21 years of age.
  • Two-week paid orientation training (hybrid & in-person).
  • Sound judgment and calm decision-making.
  • Empathy, reliability, and a team-oriented approach.

Responsibilities

  • Direct Support Professionals may work in residential group homes or vocational day programs.
  • Help ensure the safety, health, and well-being of individuals in our care.
  • Coach and assist individuals with daily living skills (food prep, cooking, cleaning, shopping).
  • Support planning, implementation, and documentation of programs addressing social, emotional, physical, and personal needs.
  • Plan and participate in community-based employment, volunteer opportunities, and outings.
  • Build positive, productive relationships with families to help individuals thrive.
  • Safely transporting individuals to doctor appointments, day program, and community activities.

Your Role on Our Team

  • Direct Support Professionals may work in residential group homes or vocational day programs.

Qualifications

  • Availability to attend a two-week paid new hire orientation training that is both hybrid and in person
  • Sound judgment and the ability to respond calmly, make thoughtful decisions, and know when to ask for support.
