Legacy EmpowermentServices is seeking a Direct Support Professional (DSP) in Edison, NJ, to provide community-based supports and life skills development. This 1099 contract role involves assisting adults with disabilities with daily living activities, transportation, and self-care, across both part-time and full-time rotating schedules.

The candidate should have 2–3 years of DSP experience, a high school diploma or equivalent, and CPR/First Aid knowledge preferred.

Responsibilities

JOB TITLE: Direct Support Professional (DSP)

REPORTS TO: Regional Supervisor

JOB OVERVIEW:

We hire experienced professionals for a variety of part-time & full-time roles on a rotating basis throughout the year. Our ideal candidates have a passion for serving and impacting the lives of adults with disabilities and their families.

We are currently seeking a reliable and experienced Direct Support Professional (DSP) to join our team in a CONTRACT role. In this role , you will be responsible for providing community-based supports with life skills and activities of daily living such as shopping, transportation to & from day programs and personal appointments , self-care management and meal preparation

RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

• Responsible for providing direct support to assist participant(s) in daily routine, life skills & activities
• Assist participant in skill development to achieve stated goals and build independence as outlined in participant's ISP and/or Face Sheet
• Ensure participant arrives to scheduled activities and appointments on time
• Assist with gross and/or fine motor skills including mobility issues as needed on uneven or unpaved walkways
• Document and submit activity reports within 24 hours of service(s) being provided in accordance with NJ State guidelines
• Punctuality, Professionalism & Reliability Are A Must!!

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Prior experience (2-3 yrs minimum) as a DSP working with individuals with disabilities required
• Experience supporting adults with intellectual/development disabilities a +.
• Some college or an Associate's Degree (preferred) ; HS Diploma required
• CPR Certification & Knowledge of First Aid (preferred)
• Experience with providing Mobility Supports ( preferred )
• Familiarity with OT/PT a +.
• Experience with Job Coaching and Life Skills Coaching (preferred)
• Specialized skills in Cooking/Culinary Arts, Financial Literacy, Visual or Performing Arts a +.
• Positive attitude and service-oriented mindset -Solid Customer Service Background
• Strong Verbal and Written communication skills--Bilingual Skills & Fluency in 2 nd Language Welcomed (notably in Spanish, Chinese (Mandarin, Cantonese), Korean, Russian, Arabic, & ASL )
• Computer Skills- Knowledge and Proficiency with MS Office and Web based platforms a + .

SALARY & COMPENSATION:

Starting hourly rate is $ 23 /hour

QUALIFICATIONS (Will vary based on position but age & education qualifications should meet these minimum best practices per NJ DHS DDD guidelines):

• A minimum age of 18 for any position except for staff working under SupportiveEmployment and Career Planning. Please refer to the DDD Manuals (Section 17) fortheir specific minimum age range of 20 and other position specific education/experiencerequirements
• Valid Driver's license (if applicable) to transport individuals
• Direct Care Staff shall have a high school diploma or equivalent.
• For all persons providing a professional service, i.e., nurse, psychologist, etc., either through direct employment or contract, shall possess credentials required by Federal orState law.
• For a Supervisory position a minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent w/ 1 yearof experience working with people with developmental disabilities
• For Executive Director Level position a Bachelor's Degree or a HS Diploma or equivalentwith 5 years of experience working with people with Developmental Disabilities.
