Devereux Advanced Behavioral Health New Jersey is seeking a Direct Support Professional to help adults with autism and developmental disabilities build independence, daily living skills, and community involvement.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED (required).
  • Valid non-provisional driver’s license (required).
  • Age 18 or older (required).
  • Two-week paid orientation (hybrid/in-person).
  • Good judgment and calm decision-making.
  • Empathy, reliability, and teamwork with adults with autism/ID.

Responsibilities

  • Direct Support Professionals may work in residential homes or day programs.
  • Ensure safety, health, and well-being of individuals in care.
  • Help individuals build daily living skills (cooking, cleaning, shopping).
  • Assist with program planning, implementation, and documentation.
  • Support community-based employment, volunteering, and outings.
  • Build relationships with family members to promote thriving.
  • Transport individuals safely to appointments and activities.

Your Role on Our Team

  • Direct Support Professionals may work in residential group homes or vocational day programs.
  • Help ensure the safety, health, and well-being of individuals in our care.
  • Coach and assist individuals as they build daily living skills, including food preparation, cooking, cleaning, and shopping.
  • Support the planning, implementation, and documentation of programs that address each individual's social, emotional, physical, and personal needs.
  • Plan and participate in community-based employment, volunteer opportunities, (day program) and outings that promote involvement and independence.
  • Build positive, productive relationships with individuals’ family members to help ensure the individual thrives under the care we provide.
  • Safely transporting our individuals could include but not limited to doctor appointments, day program and scheduled community activities.

Qualifications

Bring Your Strengths to Our Team

  • A high school diploma or GED.
  • A valid, non-provisional driver's license.
  • At least 18 years of age.
  • Availability to attend a two-week paid new hire orientation training that is both hybrid and in person
  • Sound judgment and the ability to respond calmly, make thoughtful decisions, and know when to ask for support.
  • Empathy, reliability, and a team-oriented approach to supporting adults with autism and developmental disabilities.
