To The Rescue is hiring Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) to support individuals with disabilities in our Community Living Homes and residential settings throughout the Cedar Rapids area.
As a DSP, you’ll help individuals with their everyday routines, teach and reinforce life skills, and support them in reaching their personal goals. From cooking meals and grocery shopping to going to a movie, attending a ball game, or exploring the community , you’ll help create opportunities for individuals to live active, fulfilling lives.
No previous experience in human services? No problem. We provide paid training to help you build the skills you need to succeed.
Provide individualized support based on each person's needs, goals, and support plan
Assist with daily routines and activities within the home
Help individuals develop and practice life skills that promote greater independence
Support meal planning, grocery shopping, cooking, household tasks, and other everyday activities
Encourage individuals to make choices and participate in their own routines and goals
Support individuals in participating in activities they enjoy
Help individuals get involved in their community through outings, events, and recreational activities
Accompany individuals to activities such as movies, sporting events, plays, parks, shopping, and other community destinations
Provide transportation as needed
Provide appropriate supervision and support throughout the day
Help maintain a safe, comfortable, and respectful home environment
Follow individual support plans and established safety procedures
Respond appropriately to changing needs or challenging situations
Respect individual rights, privacy, dignity, and confidentiality
Complete required documentation accurately and on time
Communicate with supervisors and other members of the individual's support team
Attend required training, staff meetings, and professional development
Maintain a professional and positive relationship with individuals, families, coworkers, and community partners
You don't need previous DSP or human services experience. We're looking for people who are:
Patient, compassionate, and dependable
Comfortable building relationships and working with people from different backgrounds and abilities
Comfortable working independently and as part of a team
Strong communicators who can remain calm in challenging situations
Willing to learn and take direction
High school diploma or GED required
Must be at least 18 years old
Must have valid driver's license
