Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Monitor safety and whereabouts of all residents.
  • Observe and report patient behaviors to clinical staff.
  • Interact with patients and provide patient support.
  • Deliver and document rehabilitative services to adults with mental illness.
  • Implement rehabilitation interventions under licensed supervision.
  • Provide independent living skills training.
  • Create opportunities for social and interpersonal development.
  • Ensure daily tasks and chores are completed.
  • Possibly transport patients as needed.
  • Assist in admission processes and room prep at discharge.
  • Contribute to cleanliness and appearance of the facility.
  • May be responsible for medication distribution where applicable.

Responsibilities
  • Monitors the safety and whereabouts of all residents in the facility.
  • Observes and reports patient behaviors to clinical staff.
  • Directly interacts with patients and is available for patient support.
  • Delivers and documents specific rehabilitative services to adult patients with mental illness.
  • Implements rehabilitation interventions under the direction of licensed clinical staff.
  • Implements independent living skills training with patients.
  • Provides opportunities for social and interpersonal skills development.
  • Ensures that patient chores and/or daily tasks are complete.
  • May provide transportation for patients, as needed.
  • Under direction, participates in the admission process for patients and ensures that rooms are prepped at time of discharge for the next admission.
  • Contributes to the overall cleanliness and appearance of the facility.
  • Depending on setting, may be responsible for medication distribution.
Qualifications and Requirements

Must meet state‑specific requirements. Per Minnesota Statute, must hold a High School Diploma or GED and meet one of the following criteria:

  • Agreed to work exclusively overnight shifts; or
  • Completed 2,000 hours of work experience providing health and human services to individuals; or
  • Completed three years of personal life experience with mental illness within the previous 10 years; or
  • Completed three years of personal life experience as the primary caregiver to an adult with a mental illness, traumatic brain injury, substance use disorder, or developmental disability; or
  • Holds an Associate of Arts degree; or
  • Completed 15 semester or 23 quarter hours post‑secondary education in behavioral science or related field; or
  • Holds an unencumbered registered nurse license.

Previous experience in providing mental health services to adults is preferred. Good written and verbal communication and organizational skills, and the ability to work independently in an effective and efficient manner. Computer skills must be sufficient enough to be able to document information within an electronic medical record.

A valid driver's license may be required, depending on department/facility.

Interventions that are in the treatment plan but outside the scope of practice for this role must be implemented by appropriately licensed clinical staff. Interventions outside the scope of the treatment plan require approval from the leadership team.
