Job summary

Turning Point of Central California, Inc. is seeking a Direct Service Professional to support residents in achieving treatment goals under the Program Director’s guidance.

You will participate in daily living skills sessions, document progress, and assist with transportation and emergency response. The role requires a high school diploma with college units, 6 months of direct care experience with DD residents, and the ability to work various shifts.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma and some college units in a social service, healthcare, education, or similar course of study.
  • 6 months direct care experience with individuals with developmental disabilities.
  • Must be at least 21 years old under CA Health & Safety Code.
  • Clear written and spoken English.
  • Ability to write progress reports for treatment documentation.
  • Ability to work with diverse groups.
  • Ability to provide direct services to Developmentally Disabled residents.
  • Understand and apply care and treatment principles for DD residents.
  • Recognize signs of medication issues and report to the Program Director.
  • Analyze dangerous situations and respond appropriately.
  • Provide input to the Program Director about treatment programs.
  • Follow written and oral directions.
  • Maintain positive working relationships.
  • Emergency first aid certification required before working alone.
  • Basic computer skills with Office 365, Teams, Zoom.
  • Valid driver’s license and transportation, insured.
  • Less than 3 points on driving record.
  • Pass pre-employment criminal background check.
  • Pass pre-employment physical, drug test, and TB test.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in implementing the treatment plan under the Program Director's supervision.
  • Maintain case documentation per agency guidelines.
  • Transport residents to appointments and labs.
  • Conduct daily living skills sessions and re-socialization groups.
  • Attend required staff meetings and weekly supervision.
  • Participate in staff trainings and practicum.
  • Support residents and encourage participation in treatment activities.
  • Motivate residents toward self-reliance in daily living.
  • Observe residents’ condition and report changes promptly.
  • Ensure staffing ratios by being able to work all shifts when needed.
  • Think quickly and act in emergencies.
  • Drive on agency business as needed.
  • Maintain on-site presence as required.

Job Summary

The Direct Service Professional reports to the Program Director and provides direct care services specialized to assist residents of the program in achieving their treatment goals, under the direct supervision of the Program Director.

Essential Job Responsibilities
  • Assist in the accomplishment of the treatment plan for residents, under the supervision of the Program Director.
  • Maintain appropriate case recording documentation as per agency and contract guidelines including actions of resident behaviors and rule violations.
  • Transport residents to doctors’ appointments and laboratories for tests.
  • Conduct daily living skills sessions and re-socialization activity groups.
  • Attend staff meetings as required, including weekly supervision meetings with the Program Director.
  • Attend job‑related conferences and participate in a variety of in‑service trainings, seminars, and practicum.
  • Participate in carrying out individual and group treatment programs for residents and encourage resident participation in treatment activities.
  • Motivate residents to develop self‑reliance in daily living.
  • Observe resident’s physical condition and behavior, report significant changes to the Program Director.
  • Responsible for ensuring staffing ratio is at a minimum by being able to work all shifts upon request.
  • Think and act quickly and efficiently in emergencies.
  • Drive on Agency business.
  • Physical presence at the program is required.
  • Respond to emergency health situations in an appropriate manner as defined by emergency first aid training.
Essential Job Requirements
  • High School diploma and some college units in a social service, healthcare, education, or similar course of study; and
  • Have 6 months prior experience providing direct care to individuals with developmental disabilities.
  • Must meet the minimum age of 21 pursuant to California Health & Safety Code Section 1562.
  • Communicate effectively in written and spoken English.
  • Ability to write acceptable progress reports required for treatment documentation.
  • Work effectively with diverse ethnic, religious, socio‑economical, and professional groups.
  • Competently provide direct services for Developmentally Disabled residents of the facility.
  • Understand and apply principles and techniques involved in the care and treatment of individuals or groups of Developmentally Disabled residents.
  • Recognize contraindications, side‑effects, and signs of medication complications and report to the Program Director.
  • Analyze potentially dangerous situations accurately and take effective action.
  • Provide input to the Program Director and/or home behaviorist as relates to the treatment programs for the residents.
  • Understand and follow written and oral directions.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Must be certified in emergency first aid prior to working alone with any resident.
  • Basic computer skills in Office 365, Teams, Zoom and other communication/meeting platforms.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license and have access to a dependable means of transportation that is properly insured and operated in accordance with all laws. Agency insurer authorization is required.
  • Must have less than 3 points on driving record.
  • Ability to pass a pre‑employment criminal background check.
  • Ability to pass a pre‑employment physical, drug screen and TB test.
