3-11pm shift, includes weekends

Basic Function/Overall Responsibilities: To provide a safe, healthy environment that supports acquisition and utilization of pro-social skills for youth residing in the HGS RTA residential program. Direct Care workers provide guidance and coaching in behavior choices to youth by teaching coping, social, and vocational skills. Individuals in direct care positions may be required to work irregular hours, including nights, evenings, and weekends.

Principal Assigned Responsibilities:

  1. Ensure that the facility is a safe, comfortable, and secure environment for staff, visitors, youth, and families.
  2. Supervise youth in their daily routines in accordance with agency policy and procedures as well as any individual Enhanced Supervision Plans.
  3. Participate in the implementation of engaging and diverse activity programming for youth in care.
  4. Maintain a safe, clean, and homelike environment for youth, including completing household chores as assigned.
  5. Implement behavior management techniques reflecting the agency's Sanctuary philosophy, Therapeutic Crisis Intervention training, and policies.
  6. Execute intervention methods as defined by Individualized Crisis Management Plans and treatment plans.
  7. Attend and participate in weekly staff meetings and biweekly supervision.
  8. Ensure completion of all written documentation as per program and agency policies.
  9. Follow all program and agency policies and procedures.
  10. Successfully complete Medication Certification training and administer medications according to physician’s orders and record-keeping guidelines.
  11. Participate in professional development trainings as assigned.
  12. Complete Van Certification training to transport youth on outings and visits.
  13. Perform other related tasks as assigned by supervisor.
Qualifications

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Minimum high school or equivalent diploma; higher education preferred.
  • Experience working with juvenile justice involved youth is highly desirable; maturity to work with and relate to youth is required.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Competencies:

  • Commitment to following the Seven Commitments of the Sanctuary Model.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with youth.
  • Understanding of youth’s developmental needs and ability to respond appropriately.
  • Knowledge of agency policies, Trauma-Informed Care, and child abuse reporting requirements.
  • Ability to foster growth and respect individuality in youth.
  • Effective communication skills, including asking appropriate questions and active listening.
  • Ability to develop nurturing relationships and serve as a positive role model.
  • Adherence to infection control protocols.
  • Knowledge of developmental milestones and ability to adapt activities accordingly.
  • Ability to identify appropriate behavioral expectations.
  • Observation skills to understand youth interests and developmental levels.
  • Maintain professionalism and boundaries at all times.
  • Valid New York driver’s license.
