Job description

This is an open and continuous posting for Full-Time and Part-Time positions on multiple shifts throughout the Greater Lowell area of the Northeast Region of DDS.

The Department of Developmental Services (DDS) seeks caring and compassionate applicants for the role of DIRECTCARE WORKER I who are committed to building meaningful relationships and providing outstanding care and service.

The Direct Care Worker role provides programmatic direct care services and supports to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. This is achieved by creating an environment aligned with participants' needs in daily living and skill development for community integration.

Positions Available in Greater Lowell:

Billerica, Chelmsford, Lowell, North Reading, Reading, Tewksbury, Tyngsboro, Wilmington

Responsibilities (not all inclusive):

  • Support individuals by assisting in developing and implementing habilitative, behavioral, and recreational programs per ISP objectives
  • Coordinate with supervisors to ensure successful ISP implementation, appropriate service methods, and crisis intervention
  • Assist with activities of daily living, including household tasks, self-care, hygiene, shopping, cooking, budgeting, and social skills development
  • Attend review meetings, accompany individuals to appointments, and transport them to various activities
  • Maintain confidentiality and records, and uphold individuals' human rights according to laws and regulations

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ability to develop respectful, caring, ethical, and empowering relationships with individuals with disabilities
  • Ability to assist/lift individuals with physical disabilities or limited mobility
  • Proficiency in reading, transcribing, and understanding English

Agency Requirements:

  • Valid Class D Motor Vehicle Operator's License
  • Pass the Medication Administration Program (MAP) certification
  • Obtain and maintain CPR and First Aid certifications after training

Additional Notes:

This entry-level position is filled on an ongoing basis due to staff turnover and new program development. Positions may be full or part-time, on various shifts, often including weekends, with two days off midweek. Flexibility in schedule is required. This is a 24/7 staff position, and mandatory overtime may be required during emergencies.

This position is classified as an "EMERGENCY" role under DDS Emergency Plan, requiring reporting during declared states of emergency.

Employees are paid bi-weekly via direct deposit.
