Job Summary:

The Direct Care Worker is a support role focused on assisting children and adolescents with physical and developmental disabilities in the after-school program. The incumbent will support the achievement of each child's Individualized Plan of Care.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provide instructional support using communication methods determined by the family and/or school (e.g., PCS, voice box, sign language).
  • Plan lessons that utilize the student's learning mode to teach skills for independence (e.g., hygiene, self-help, social skills, community safety).
  • Organize community outings to provide cultural, educational, social, and recreational experiences (e.g., transportation, visits to businesses, libraries, museums).
  • Implement students' Individual or Treatment Plans through engaging activities aligned with their goals and cognitive levels.
  • Document progress towards goals through daily notes, quarterly reports, and portfolios.
  • Record events related to behavior management plans as appropriate.
  • Inform supervisors of scheduled changes (e.g., sick days, home visits).
  • Participate in team meetings to ensure quality, compliance, and satisfaction.
Education and Experience:
  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  • Coursework or background in Childcare, Education, Allied Health, or Human Services preferred.
  • At least 100 hours of experience working with students on the Autism Spectrum or with cognitive delays.
  • One year of independent work experience in home and community settings as an instructor.
Skills and Competencies:
  • Proficiency in English, both written and oral, with excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work positively with diverse populations and flexible to extended hours based on program needs.
