LOCATION OF POSITION: MDH, Secure Evaluation & Therapeutic Treatment (SETT), Hagerstown, MD

POSITION DUTIES

The Potomac Center/SETT provides Direct Care Assistants with the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) class, as well as paying for the initial application and renewal fees for their CNA license. This position is responsible for helping each resident served meet their personal outcomes, successfully completing all in-service training modules inclusive of classroom, demonstrated competencies, and Certified Nursing Assistant related tasks. Responsibilities include:

  1. Full compliance with applicable policies and procedures relating to individual care and identified outcomes.
  2. Provision of quality services in areas such as equipment utilization, data collection, personal hygiene, and programming.
  3. Matching newly-acquired skills to enhance the growth and development of persons served at Potomac Center/SETT.

NOTICE: Federal COVID-19 Vaccination Requirement for Certain Maryland Department of Health (MDH) Employees. All staff at the Maryland Department of Health’s CMS certified health care facilities are required to receive either a first or single COVID-19 dose and provide proof of their vaccination status. Candidates will be required to provide proof of vaccination status or have an approved religious or medical exemption prior to appointment.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalence certificate.

Experience: Six months of experience in work assisting in the care, treatment, habilitation, or rehabilitation of mentally or physically ill patients, aged, or developmentally disabled clients. Note:

  1. Applicants may substitute experience in patient or client direct care for the required education on a year-for-year basis for up to four years of the required education.
  2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Hospital Corpsman classifications or Health Care Specialist and Medical Services specialty codes in the health-related field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The desired candidate should possess the following:

  1. Experience working with the forensic/court-involved population.
  2. Experience assisting with activities of daily living and active treatment.
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS
  1. Candidates must possess a current certificate as a Nursing Assistant from the Maryland State Board of Nursing OR must have successfully completed a Board of Nursing approved Nursing Assistant training program and received certification as a Nursing Assistant from the Board of Nursing within sixty days from the date of hire.
  2. Employees may be required to possess or obtain a Geriatric Aide certificate.
  3. Employees may be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
  4. Some employees may be required to operate vans which require a specific motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
  5. Employees may be required to successfully complete training in and maintain current cardiopulmonary resuscitation certification.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
  1. Employees must have successfully completed a direct care training course or examination approved by the hiring facility prior to permanent appointment.
  2. Employees are subject to call-in and must provide the facility with a telephone number at which they can be reached.
  3. Employees are subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with Code of Maryland Regulations 17.04.09, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs.
