Job description

The Director of IT Quality Engineering (QE) will be responsible for managing and delivering strategies and solutions for testing highly complex enterprise-wide technology solutions supporting Healthfirst’s mission and goals, as well as the overall roadmap for Quality Engineering across the enterprise. The role involves coordinating with program teams to implement strategies around test automation, test environments, test data, continuous testing (DevOps), and performance testing/engineering to ensure successful testing of major applications. The position requires working with various stakeholders to develop solutions and accelerators that enhance efficiency and quality while reducing cycle times. An engineering mindset, creativity, and innovative thinking are essential to achieve these objectives. The Director will report to the AVP of IT Quality Engineering and will provide strategic direction, team leadership, resource and budget management, technical oversight, and will be responsible for preparing reports and metrics. Managing distributed teams across geographies is also a key aspect of the role.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  1. Develop a strong understanding of application development and engineering principles, including agile methodologies (preferably SAFe), database concepts, DevOps pipelines, and quality assurance practices. Demonstrate excellent leadership and communication skills.
  2. Continuously identify and evaluate new tools and frameworks to improve efficiency and quality. Conduct proof of concepts, present outcomes, and ensure the QA department stays updated on new technologies, industry trends, and SDLC changes.
  3. Build engineering solutions and tools to facilitate application testing, define test automation strategies, and collaborate with program teams to align roadmaps. Present findings to stakeholders as needed.
  4. Collaborate with the DevOps team to implement continuous testing within pipelines and design new frameworks as required.
  5. Define and execute strategies for performance testing and engineering, including the deployment of Application Performance Monitoring tools. Work with teams to identify gaps and drive improvements.
  6. Generate and present metrics and KPIs related to test automation, performance testing, and continuous testing.
  7. Manage budgeting, resource allocation, and team development efforts.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field.
  2. At least 10+ years of experience in application development and engineering, with proficiency in scripting languages such as Python and Shell.
  3. Experience in building and maintaining DevOps pipelines.
  4. Solid knowledge of database concepts and data models.
  5. Exposure to application performance engineering and test automation tools like Selenium, TOSCA, ROBOT, etc.
  6. Experience managing medium to large teams across different geographies.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Experience with AWS, containerization, and YAML-based orchestration.
  2. Knowledge of API and service-oriented architecture.
  3. Familiarity with reporting platforms such as Grafana and Tableau.
  4. Understanding of AI concepts, including generative AI.

Hiring Range:

  • Greater New York City Area (NY, NJ, CT): $170,400 - $260,610
  • Other Locations (within approved areas): $140,600 - $215,050

Compensation will depend on experience, education, licenses, and other relevant factors. Benefits include medical, dental, vision, incentive programs, life insurance, and 401k contributions.
