Dining Services III - Cook - Grand Mesa Youth Service Center

About The Division Of Youth Services

The DYS provides juvenile detention, assessment, commitment, and parole services across ten secure facilities for youth aged 10 to 21. It manages programs for at-risk youth and juvenile parole services statewide.

Description Of Job

The work involves fully operational food production in the DYS Food Services Department, with shifts scheduled between 4:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m., subject to change based on needs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Meal Preparation and Service: Prepare attractive, appetizing food following menus and recipes, ensure proper temperatures, and serve in correct quantities.
  • Safety and Security: Identify safety hazards, operate equipment properly, and follow safety protocols to prevent accidents.
  • Sanitation: Maintain cleanliness and proper food handling procedures to prevent foodborne illnesses.
  • Inventory Control: Inspect, store, and manage food supplies according to FIFO, and assist with inventory counts.
  • Training and Meetings: Attend relevant training and meetings to stay updated on procedures.
  • Other Duties: Perform additional tasks as assigned, including working various shifts, weekends, holidays, and OT as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Two years of relevant work experience in a related occupation.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience as a current or former Colorado state employee.
