Job description

Overview

Assists patients with their selection of food items from a daily menu and alternate menu that fits the patient's diet order and preferences. Collects and reviews patient menus for accuracy. Delivers food trays and snacks, picks up trays, records fluid intake and percentage eaten after meals. Passes snacks and provides floor stock to unit pantries.

Responsibilities

MANAGES THE PATIENT MENU PROCESS

• Achieves 95% accuracy on menu audits per diet order and departmental policies and procedures.
• Submits menus on time.
• Conducts 100% face-to-face visits with patients and/or families, evidenced by a random audit (likes and dislikes known and reported to the team).
• Attends meetings and/or reads minutes to stay informed about food-tech updates.
• Completes 6-8 hours of Carle Health or department education per HRD guidelines.

DELIVERS AND COLLECTS PATIENT FOOD TRAYS

• Delivers trays to patient's bedside as per Delivery Schedule.
• Provides nourishments to patients or makes arrangements for them to receive it.
• Documents 100% of patient intake and fluid intake on patient records.
• Documents 100% of calorie count intakes; researches when not completed, and reports daily to dietitians.
• Delivers late trays for special orders, requests, or order changes as needed.

MAINTAINS UNIT KITCHENS, FLOOR STOCK, AND REFRIGERATORS

• Inventories and distributes floor stock daily according to established deadlines.
• Rotates stock and maintains cleanliness of refrigerators, counters, and drawers on nursing units and designated lounges or pantries.
• Records refrigerator temperatures daily and ensures documentation for Quality Improvement monthly.
• Maintains a safe, clean, sanitary, and organized environment using gloves, hairnets, proper cleaning supplies, and correct food temperatures.

MANAGES OFFICE INFORMATION

• Updates manual kardexes with daily/hourly changes from doctors' orders, patient requests, and dietitian instructions. Includes floor kardexes and nourishment records.
• Tallies all food items for preparation, including those not on the menu, using tally forms, and includes late additions, changes, or discharges.
• Follows the write-in procedure daily.

Compensation and Benefits

The hourly rate ranges from $15.13 to $24.51. This is a good faith minimum and maximum at the time of posting.
