Job description

Overview

Assists patients with their selection of food items from a daily menu and alternate menu that fits the patient's diet order and preference. Collects and reviews patient menus for accuracy. Delivers food trays and snacks and picks up trays, records fluid intake and % eaten after meals. Passes snacks and provides floor stock to unit pantries.

Responsibilities

MANAGES THE PATIENT MENU PROCESS

• Achieves 95% accuracy on menu audits per diet order and departmental policies and procedures.
• Submits menus on time.
• Conducts 100% face-to-face visits with patients and/or families, evidenced by a random audit (likes and dislikes known and reported to team).
• Attends meetings and/or reviews minutes to stay informed about dining host updates.
• Completes 6-8 hours of Carle Health or department education per HRD guidelines.

DELIVERS AND COLLECTS PATIENT FOOD TRAYS

• Delivers trays to patient's bedside per Delivery Schedule.
• Provides nourishments or arranges for patient to receive them.
• Documents 100% of patient’s food and fluid intake on patient records.
• Records 100% of calorie counts, researching when not completed, and submits to dietitians daily.
• Delivers late trays for special orders/requests/changes as needed.

MAINTAINS UNIT KITCHENS, FLOOR STOCK, AND REFRIGERATORS

• Conducts daily inventories and distributes floor stock according to deadlines.
• Rotates stock and maintains cleanliness of refrigerators, counters, and drawers on nursing units and lounges.
• Records refrigerator temperatures daily and submits documentation for Quality Improvement monthly.
• Maintains a safe, clean, sanitary, and organized environment using gloves, hairnets, proper cleaning materials, and correct food temperatures.

MANAGES OFFICE INFORMATION

• Stays updated with daily/hourly diet changes from doctor’s orders, patient requests, and dietitian instructions.
• Tallies all food preparation items, including late additions, changes, or discharges, using tally forms by established deadlines.

Compensation and Benefits
