Job summary

ALTEN Technology USA is seeking a Dimensional Quality Engineer to support vehicle dimensional quality and reduction of variation across body, interior, and exterior components. You will analyze geometry, identify variation, and collaborate with manufacturing, design, and suppliers to implement corrective actions.

The ideal candidate has strong GD&T knowledge, measurement data analysis skills, and proficiency with NX/Teamcenter, CMM, and laser trackers.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Quality Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Experience in automotive dimensional engineering, quality, manufacturing, BIW, body, interior, exterior, or vehicle assembly.
  • Strong understanding of GD&T, dimensional tolerances, and measurement principles.
  • Ability to read and interpret dimensional measurement data.
  • Ability to analyze data from multiple measurement systems and identify trends and root causes.
  • Working knowledge of NX CAD and Teamcenter.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Working knowledge of basic statistics and statistical process control (SPC).
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with cross-functional engineering, manufacturing, quality, and supplier teams.

Responsibilities

  • Lead dimensional improvement activities for vehicle components, assemblies, tooling, and manufacturing processes.
  • Analyze complex sheet metal, BIW, interior, and exterior components and assemblies to identify dimensional variation and opportunities for improvement.
  • Review and interpret dimensional measurement data from systems such as: CMM, Laser Trackers, QA Fixtures, In-Line Vision Systems, and other equipment.
  • Analyze data from multiple sources to identify top dimensional issues, trends, variation, and potential root causes.
  • Partner with manufacturing and plant quality teams to develop and implement corrective actions.
  • Work with design and tooling teams to identify opportunities for part, tooling, or design changes that improve dimensional performance.
  • Validate corrective actions through measurement data and statistical analysis.
  • Monitor dimensional trend charts and identify potential issues before they impact production or vehicle quality.
  • Drive variation reduction for critical product and process characteristics.
  • Collaborate with internal and external suppliers to communicate dimensional issues and drive timely resolution.
  • Prepare technical presentations, reports, and data analysis for engineering and management teams.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of dimensional issues, corrective actions, and validation results.

We are seeking an experienced Dimensional Quality Engineer to support vehicle dimensional quality and variation-reduction activities across body, interior, and exterior components.

The engineer will analyze vehicle and component geometry, identify dimensional variation and root causes, and work closely with manufacturing, plant quality, design, tooling, and suppliers to implement corrective actions and improve overall product dimensional quality.

The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of GD&T, dimensional measurement, tolerance analysis, CAD, measurement data analysis, and basic statistical/process-control methods.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead dimensional improvement activities for vehicle components, assemblies, tooling, and manufacturing processes.
  • Analyze complex sheet metal, BIW, interior, and exterior components and assemblies to identify dimensional variation and opportunities for improvement.
  • Review and interpret dimensional measurement data from systems such as:

  • Quality Assurance Fixtures
  • In-Line Vision Systems
  • Other dimensional measurement equipment
  • Analyze data from multiple sources to identify top dimensional issues, trends, variation, and potential root causes.
  • Partner with manufacturing and plant quality teams to develop and implement corrective actions.
  • Work with design and tooling teams to identify opportunities for part, tooling, or design changes that improve dimensional performance.

Required Qualifications

  • Ability to navigate CAD models, inspect geometry, and create section/cut views for dimensional analysis.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Working knowledge of basic statistics and statistical process control (SPC).
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with cross-functional engineering, manufacturing, quality, and supplier teams.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with CMM, laser tracker, Meisterbock, QA fixtures, or vision measurement systems.
  • Experience with automotive BIW, sheet metal, interior, or exterior components.
  • Experience with dimensional variation reduction and manufacturing process improvement.
  • Experience with tolerance stack-up and variation analysis.
  • Experience working with automotive manufacturing plants and suppliers.
  • Experience with SPC, Cp/Cpk, control charts, and statistical data analysis.
  • Experience with NX and Teamcenter in an OEM or Tier-1 automotive environment.
