Job summary

Midland County is seeking a Transport Driver for the Medical Examiner’s Office to safely transport decedents, evidence, and related materials. The role requires professionalism, discretion, and strict adherence to health, safety, and legal standards.

Responsibilities include responding to requests for pickups, ensuring dignified handling, completing required paperwork, and maintaining clean, safe transport vehicles.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Valid Texas driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
• Ability to lift, move, and carry up to 200 pounds with assistance and equipment.
• Maintaining professionalism, confidentiality, and composure in sensitive situations.
• Basic knowledge of vehicle maintenance and safe driving practices.
• Willingness to work irregular hours, nights, weekends, holidays, and be on-call.

Responsibilities

• Responds to requests to pick up and transport decedents, evidence, and materials.
• Ensure dignified handling and secure transport in compliance with protocols.
• Assist with lifting, moving, and placement of decedents using equipment.
• Complete transport documentation, logs, and incident reports.
• Maintain transport vehicles in clean, safe condition and report needs.
• Operate equipment like stretchers, body bags, and PPE safely.
• Communicate with law enforcement, hospitals, funeral homes, and staff professionally.
• Follow infection control protocols and sanitation procedures.
• May secure personal effects and accompanying property.
• Participate in ongoing safety and emergency training.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
