Job summary

Focused Energy is advancing laser-driven inertial fusion energy toward commercial power. As Principal Scientist, you’ll lead the Digital Twin team’s modeling across laser, target, chamber, and manufacturing to enable robust plant-level simulations.

You will guide a team of scientists, validate codes against data from shot experiments, and present insights to executives and investors, shaping design choices and performance budgets.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Physics with a plasma/laser/nuclear specialization; PhD preferred.
• Deep expertise in IFE/ICF physics and related subsystems.
• Proven track record developing and validating physics simulation codes.
• Strong programming skills and experience with HPC workflows.
• Experience with integrated systems-level modeling and uncertainty analysis.

Responsibilities

• Lead integration of physics models across laser, target, chamber, and manufacturing.
• Validate physics codes and quantify model uncertainty.
• Set modeling standards and validation philosophy for the team.
• Develop an integrated, plant-level IFE model.
• Present findings to executives and investors.
