Job summary

Caterpillar Inc. seeks a Simulation & Digital Twin Engineer to design, develop, and integrate simulation and visualization capabilities for next‑gen digital twins and machine behavior modeling.

You will work with NVIDIA Omniverse, USD, and Omniverse Kit‑based pipelines to build interactive 3D experiences. The role requires hands‑on C++ and Python programming, plus experience with real‑time visualization, validation of models, and integration of multiple digital‑twin platforms.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Robotics, or related field.
  • Hands-on experience with digital twins or simulation and real-time visualization.
  • Experience with NVIDIA Omniverse, USD workflows, and Omniverse Kit/Code.

Responsibilities

  • Develop the simulation logic and behavioral models governing machine and system behavior.
  • Create high‑fidelity 3D models, scenes, and environments using Omniverse, USD, and Kit‑based pipelines.
  • Validate and verify models and digital twins; ensure numerical stability.
  • Contribute to toolchain and pipeline design, including scripting utilities and test frameworks.
  • Work with multiple digital‑twin platforms and integrate data or external simulation engines.

Role Definition

The Simulation & Digital Twin Engineer will design, develop, and integrate simulation and visualization capabilities that support Caterpillar’s next‑generation digital twin, machine behavior modeling, and interactive 3D experiences. This role combines simulation engineering, real‑time visualization, and 3D scene‑building using NVIDIA Omniverse and modern C++/Python toolchains.

  • Simulation Development: Develop the simulation logic and behavioral models governing machine and system behavior.
  • Real‑Time 3D Visualization & Omniverse Engineering: Create high‑fidelity 3D models, scenes, and environments using NVIDIA Omniverse, USD, and Omniverse Kit‑based pipelines.
  • Validation & Testing of Models and Digital Twins: Execute model validation and verification plans, ensuring digital twins are accurate and numerically stable.
  • Integration & Platform Engineering: Contribute to toolchain and pipeline design, including scripting utilities, automated test frameworks, and modular code libraries.
  • Digital Twin Tooling & Ecosystem Support: Work hands‑on with multiple digital‑twin platforms, such as NVIDIA Omniverse (primary environment), CARLA, Siemens NX/Teamcenter/Plant Simulation, Dassault 3DEXPERIENCE, Ansys Twin Builder, or similar, Unity or Unreal Engine. Integrate data, models, or external simulation engines into unified digital‑twin experiences.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering,, Robotics, or a related field.
  • Basic experience developing digital twins or simulation with exposure to high‑fidelity modeling, physics‑based simulation, and real‑time visualization.
  • Experience with NVIDIA Omniverse, including USD workflows, Omniverse Kit/Code, PhysX, or Omniverse‑based pipeline development.
  • Hands‑on programming skills in C++ and Python.
  • Experience in validating simulation models and digital twins using test data correlation, scenario‑based testing, regression testing, and telematics/real‑world data.
  • Knowledge of 3D scene construction, rendering concepts, and UI development for real‑time visualization.
Pay Range

Summary Pay Range: $97,530.00 - $158,480.00 Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job‑related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
