Pennymac's Digital Technology Organization (DTO) Rotational Program – Engineer is designed for recent grads to explore front-end, back-end, and full-stack development. You’ll rotate across application teams, gain end-to-end lifecycle experience, and receive mentorship and training for a successful career in software engineering.

Openings for January 2027 or June 2027 cohorts; start dates align with program cadence.

Qualifications

• Graduating Fall 2026 or Spring 2027 with a relevant degree.
• Available for January 18, 2027 or June 14, 2027 start dates.
• Proficiency in at least one programming language (Python/React/Typescript).
• Experience with Git and relational databases (MySQL/Postgres).
• Knowledge of AI/ML concepts and NLP frameworks is a plus.
• Interest in mobile/web UI/UX and a project portfolio is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Participate in rotations across Application Development Teams and contribute to projects.
• Design, develop, test, and document software across front-end, back-end, and full-stack areas.
• Collaborate with engineers and stakeholders to understand requirements and deliver high-quality code.
• Work within Scrum or Kanban processes and communicate progress clearly.
• Stay current with new technologies and best practices.

A Typical Day

Pennymac's Digital Technology Organization (DTO) Rotational Program - Engineer position is designed to provide recent graduates with a more comprehensive understanding of our company’s technical landscape. You will have the opportunity to work on a variety of projects across different Application Development teams, rotating through front-end, back-end, and/or full-stack engineering environments. This allows you to gain valuable hands-on experience in the end-to-end application development lifecycle while building your skillsets. This rotational program is a launchpad for a successful career in application development offering mentorship, training, and exposure to the latest technologies.

The program has openings for Rotational Engineers to join our incoming cohorts for January or June 2027. Given the immersive and rotational nature of the program, engineers will be able to gain deep understanding of individual product teams and the company as a whole while building relationships amongst peer groups and existing Pennymac leadership.

A Typical Day

• Participate in rotations across various Application Development Teams, contributing to projects in various sub-domains including, analyzing user needs and requirements, designing and developing software, testing and debugging, and documenting code and processes.
• Work closely with experienced engineers, and other stakeholders to understand requirements, design solutions, and deliver high-quality code. Work effectively inside a Scrum or Kanban team.
• Analyze complex problems, develop innovative solutions, and contribute to the team's success.
• Effectively communicate your ideas, progress, and findings to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Stay abreast of the latest technologies and industry trends, and bring fresh perspectives to your work.
• Demonstrate behaviors which are aligned with the organization’s desired culture and values.
• Perform other related duties as required and assigned.

What You’ll Bring

• Graduating in Fall 2026 or Spring 2027 with a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems or a related field. Minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
• Must be available for start date of the program for the January (January 18, 2027) and June (June 14, 2027) cohorts respectively
• Technical Skills:
  • Proficiency in at least one programming language (e.g., Python, React, Typescript)
  • Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git).
  • Knowledge of relational databases such as MySQL, Postgres is desirable.
  • Understanding of AI/ML concepts, platforms and frameworks (e.g. NLP, AWS Bedrock, MLOps) is a plus.
  • Experience leveraging prompt engineering techniques on platforms such as Chat GPT/Gemini/Coding assistants (e.g. Copilot, Cursor) is beneficial.
  • Interest in Mobile/Web UI/UX principles or a portfolio of personal apps/projects is a huge plus.

Compensation:

Individual salary may vary based on multiple factors including specific role, geographic location / market data, and skills and experience as defined below:

• Lower in range - Building skills and experience in the role
• Mid-range - Experience and skills align with proficiency in the role
• Higher in range - Experience and skills add value above typical requirements of the role

Some roles may be eligible for performance-based compensation and/or stock-based incentives awarded to employees based on company and individual performance.
