Position Summary: We are seeking an experienced, dependable Digital Printer to operate digital production presses and complete printed jobs through cutting, folding, booklet making, UV coating, and other finishing processes. This role requires accurately reading work orders, coordinating with designers and account managers, monitoring print quality, and keeping jobs moving so they are completed correctly and on time. The ideal candidate has commercial digital printing experience, strong attention to detail, good mechanical aptitude, and a willingness to learn and support multiple areas of production. Overtime is required during seasonal busy periods and high-volume deadlines.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate digital production printing equipment and complete daily press setup, calibration, registration, color, paper, and job adjustments.
- Read and follow work orders, job tickets, proofs, samples, imposition instructions, quantities, paper specifications, finishing requirements, and due dates accurately.
- Load parent-size and cut-sheet stocks; identify correct paper type, size, weight, grain direction, coating, and quantity for each job.
- Cut parent-size paper to required press-sheet sizes using a production paper cutter and verify measurements before printing.
- Monitor jobs while printing for color consistency, image quality, registration, banding, defects, jams, missing sheets, and accurate counts.
- Coordinate with designers and account managers to resolve artwork, specification, proof, material, scheduling, or quality questions before and during production.
- Prioritize and manage multiple jobs so completed work is produced accurately and delivered to finishing departments on schedule.
- Cut printed jobs to final size and complete required finishing using digital folders, booklet makers, UV coaters, and related equipment.
- Inspect finished products for correct size, trim, fold, pagination, coating, binding, quantity, and overall appearance.
- Perform routine cleaning, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and minor adjustments on presses and finishing equipment.
- Keep presses, cutters, finishing equipment, paper storage, and production areas clean, safe, and organized.
- Cross-train on additional printing and finishing equipment and assist other production departments as needed.
Qualifications
- Previous experience operating commercial digital production presses is strongly preferred.
- Experience in a commercial print shop, digital print department, bindery, or related production environment is preferred.
- Ability to read and interpret work orders, proofs, measurements, paper specifications, finishing instructions, and production schedules accurately.
- Working knowledge of paper stocks, print quality, color consistency, registration, imposition, cutting, folding, booklet making, and coating is highly desirable.
- Experience operating a programmable paper cutter and safely cutting parent-size sheets is a strong plus.
- Strong attention to detail, organization, time management, judgment, and ownership of job quality.
- Comfort using Windows-based computers, digital press interfaces, job queues, and production software.
- Good mechanical aptitude and the ability to troubleshoot equipment or workflow problems are major advantages.
- Ability to communicate effectively and work closely with designers, account managers, supervisors, and production employees.
- Ability to read, speak, and follow written and verbal instructions in English.
Physical & Scheduling Requirements
- Ability to stand and work around production equipment for extended periods.
- Ability to repeatedly lift up to 40 pounds and push, pull, or maneuver heavier paper and materials using appropriate equipment or assistance.
- Ability to bend, reach, stoop, load paper, handle printed materials, and perform detailed quality inspections.
- Ability to work overtime and occasional adjusted schedules during seasonal peaks, high-volume periods, or important deadlines.
- Reliable attendance and punctuality are essential.
