Job summary

Infotrend, Inc. in Lorton, VA seeks a Digital Forensic Technician to support the collection, preservation, imaging, and documentation of digital evidence within a respected digital forensics laboratory.

You will assist with seizure of evidence, maintain chain of custody, draft detailed reports, and potentially testify in court. The role offers opportunities for professional growth and a competitive total compensation package.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree is required.
• Must pass competency and proficiency tests.
• A+ Certification OR a laboratory-approved industry certification in digital forensics from an accredited organization (e.g., EnCE, GCFE, CFCE, CCO, CCPA, 3CE, ICMDE, CCI, MAR, CAE).
• Must be a U.S. Citizen.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a Public Trust Security Clearance.

Responsibilities

• Assist with seizure of digital evidence from on-site locations while minimizing data loss.
• Preserve and archive digital evidence using forensic best practices.
• Maintain proper chain of custody and documentation for all evidence.
• Interface with investigators and develop analysis plans to meet customer needs.
• Utilize authorized forensic tools to perform imaging and extraction from digital media.
• Maintain operational effectiveness of government hardware, software, and forensic support equipment.
• Write clear reports presenting forensic findings and detailed notes for repeatability.
• Testify in court, Grand Jury, or other legal proceedings as required.
• Provide guidance and training on emerging technology and new techniques to forensic personnel.
• Perform method validation/verification of forensic tools and instrument maintenance.
• Assist with Proficiency Test Program and accreditation support.
• Perform audits and reviews of forensic work and assist with discovery requests.
• Consolidate electronic records of forensic analysis for CaseClosure and organize laboratory records.

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Digital Forensic Technician to join our team in Lorton, VA. This is a great opportunity to join a highly respected digital forensics laboratory and gain hands-on experience supporting the collection, preservation, imaging, and documentation of digital evidence.

Responsibilities:

• Assisting with seizure of digital evidence from on-site search locations while minimizing possible data loss.
• Preserving and archiving digital evidence using forensic best practices.
• Maintaining proper chain of custody of evidence and associated documentation.
• Interfacing with investigators and developing analysis plan to meet customer needs.
• Utilizing authorized forensic tools to perform forensic imaging and extraction from digital media.
• Maintaining operational effectiveness of all assigned Government hardware, software ,and forensic support equipment.
• Writing clear reports that accurately present forensic findings and detailed notes to ensure those results are repeatable.
• Testifying in court, Grand Jury, or other legal proceedings through testimony, sworn affidavits, or other legal instruments.
• Providing guidance and training on emerging technology and new techniques to forensic personnel as needed.
• Performing method validation/verification (review of forensic tools).
• Performing instrument maintenance and testing.
• Assisting with the Proficiency Test Program.
• Assisting with accreditation support.
• Performing audits / review of forensic work.
• Assisting with discovery requests.
• Assisting with consolidation of electronic records of forensic analysis for filing (CaseClosure).
• Organizing laboratory records and data for delivery to laboratory customers.
• Performing other laboratory forensic functions as assigned

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
• Successfully passing competency and proficiency test.
• A+ Certification OR a laboratory approved industry certification in digital forensics from an accredited organization (i.e EnCE, GCFE, CFCE, CCO, CCPA, 3CE, ICMDE, CCI, MAR, CAE etc..).
• Must be U.S. Citizen.

The salary for this position ranges from $57,000 to $62,000 annually. The exact salary offered will depend on your qualifications, experience, and alignment with the responsibilities of the role.
