Job summary

Frontgrade is seeking a Digital Hardware Engineer III to lead design, development and verification of high-reliability digital electronics for aerospace and defense. You will work with FPGA, firmware, software, systems, and manufacturing teams to meet performance and schedule objectives.

The role emphasizes independent execution, complex hardware design, and mentorship of junior engineers, with opportunities to influence mission-critical projects in demanding environments.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering, or equivalent experience.
Minimum five years in a specialized hardware discipline; Master’s degree allows 3 years.
Design experience with ARM or Intel processors.
Experience with high-reliability/rad-hard designs.
Experience with high-speed interfaces such as PCIe Gen3/4, 10 GbE, 40 GbE, 100 GbE, DDR4.

Develop hardware designs for Space grade and High Reliability modules; include component selection and layout oversight.
Perform component trade studies and part selection.
Develop interface requirements.
Identify and resolve hardware issues during development and post-production.
Collaborate with software, firmware, and manufacturing teams to integrate hardware and software.
Create detailed documentation for designs and testing procedures.
Optimize designs for performance, reliability, and cost.
Provide technical guidance to Junior Engineers.

Job description

The Digital Hardware Engineer III is responsible for the design, development, integration, and verification of high-reliability digital electronics for aerospace and defense applications. This role independently executes complex hardware designs while collaborating with FPGA, firmware, software, systems, and manufacturing teams to deliver products that meet performance, reliability, and schedule objectives.

Responsibilities

Develop hardware designs for Space grade and High Reliability modules.This includes component selection, schematic capture, creation of design constraints and oversight of the layout process.

Perform component trade studies and part selection.

Develop interface requirements.

Identify and resolve hardware issues during development and post-production.

Work with software teams, firmware teams, manufacturing teams, and other engineers to integrate hardware and software solutions.

Create detailed documentation for designs, testing procedures, and other relevant information.

Optimize designs for performance, reliability, and cost.

Provide technical guidance to Junior Engineers.

Qualifications

Experience:

Education: Electrical (Bachelor's degree) or Computer Engineering (Bachelor's degree). Or nine (9) years of experience may be considered in leu of a Bachelor’s Degree.

Experience:
- Minimum five (5) years of experience in a specialized functional discipline. Or three (3) years of experience may be considered w/ a Master’s Degree.

Preferred Qualifications:

Design experience with ARM or Intel based microprocessors.

Design with AMD And/Or Lattice FPGA’s

Proficiency in schematic capture with Siemens DXDesigner or Altium Designer

Experience with the design, constraint and integration of high-speed interfaces. (e.g., PCIe Gen 3/4, 10 GbE, 40 GbE, 100 GbE, DDR4).

High current/low voltage switching power supply experience

Experience collaborating with embedded software and firmware engineers to ensure seamless product verification and successful integration of hardware with FPGA and software functionality.

Excellent communication and problem-solving skills to effectively work with cross-functional teams and external stakeholders.

Experience with Hyperlynx SI/PI

Experience in Rad hard or high reliability design
