Job summary

i-Pharm GxP is seeking a Digital Plant Engineer for a hybrid, contract role in Central Indiana. The candidate will bridge process engineering, operations, IT, and automation to deliver digital solutions aligned with GMP requirements for a large capital project.

Responsibilities include data flow mapping, site-level data infrastructure delivery (Aveva PI, Logmate), and cross-functional collaboration with Process Engineering, IT, and end users.

Qualifications

• BS in Engineering (or equivalent) with 7+ years API/bulk manufacturing experience.
• Strong automation and OT background in DCS and batch manufacturing.
• Translate process and operational needs into digital requirements.
• Experience with DeltaV Batch DCS and large automation project delivery.
• Knowledge of GMPs, regulatory requirements, and computer system validation.
• Preferred: Aveva PI and MES experience.

Digital Plant Engineer - Hybrid - Automation & Process Systems (Contract)

Are you an Automation Engineer who excels at bridging functional silos between process engineering, operations, IT, and automation teams? We are seeking a Digital Plant Engineer for a multi-billion-dollar greenfield capital project, constructing highly flexible GMP clinical trial drug substance facilities for a leading global pharmaceutical manufacturer.

• Location: Hybrid in Central Indiana (Minimum 2 weeks a month on-site for the first 6 months; minimum 1 week a month thereafter).
• Scope: Producing drug substances for small molecules, biologics, and nucleic acid therapies.

The Role

• Join the dots between Business, Technology, and Data architectures for the facility.
• Embed into Project Automation Teams to understand product manufacturing processes and ensure digital solutions align with facility design and regulatory requirements.
• Lead data flow mapping activities and contribute to the delivery of site-level data infrastructure (e.g., Aveva PI, Logmate).
• Bridge process control, automation-MES integration, historian delivery, PAT platform oversight, digital use case scoping, and data integrity compliance.
• Interact extensively with the central engineering office, Process Engineering, Process Technical Transfer, Enterprise IT, and the end users.

What We’re Looking For

• BS in Engineering (or equivalent experience) with 7+ years of experience in API/bulk manufacturing within the Pharmaceutical Industry.
• Strong automation and OT operations background, specifically in DCS engineering and batch manufacturing.
• Proven ability to translate process and operational needs into digital requirements.
• Previous experience in DeltaV Batch DCS and the delivery of large automation projects in the Pharmaceutical Industry.
• Strong knowledge of GMPs, regulatory requirements, and computer system validation principles.
• Preferred: Previous experience with MES systems and Aveva PI.
