Job summary

BSN SPORTS, a VARSITY BRANDS company, is seeking a Digital Color Technician to ensure accurate color output and consistency across production sites. You will calibrate, profile, and measure to meet brand standards, supporting color-ready workflows and vendor collaborations.

You will partner with production, prepress, and QC teams to troubleshoot color issues, maintain ICC profiles, and document procedures for scalable color control across locations.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of color theory, ICC profiling, rendering intents, and color management.
  • Hands-on experience with digital print technologies, RIP software, spectrophotometers, and color-management tools.
  • Ability to interpret color measurements, identify trends and variation, and translate findings into production actions.
  • Strong troubleshooting and documentation skills with disciplined follow-through.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with operators and teams.

Responsibilities

  • Color Calibration and Control: Perform and maintain linearization, calibration, profiling, and verification routines for digital print devices and related equipment.
  • Color Measurement and Validation: Use spectrophotometers, densitometers, and color-management software to measure output and verify acceptance criteria.
  • Color Standards and Libraries: Maintain ICC profiles, RIP settings, rendering intents, Pantone references, and brand colors across locations.
  • Issue Investigation and Resolution: Troubleshoot color variation and print-quality issues and escalate complex concerns to technical partners.
  • Production and Prepress Support: Ensure files, proofs, and equipment settings are color-correct and production-ready.
  • Testing and Production Readiness: Support test prints, material evaluations, equipment trials, and validation of new workflows.
  • Multi-Site Standardization: Reinforce color-management procedures and identify variation across locations to improve repeatability.
  • Performance Monitoring: Track color-performance metrics and provide data for continuous improvement.
  • Documentation and Standard Work: Create maintenance SOPs, profiling guides, and validation records.
  • Training and Technical Support: Guide operators and production teams on color best practices and measurement tools.
  • Vendor and Technology Support: Coordinate with vendors to resolve issues and implement color-related improvements.
  • Other duties as assigned

HOW YOU WILL MAKE AN IMPACT

The Digital Color Technician supports consistent, accurate , and repeatable digital color output across internal production locations. This role executes device calibration, linearization, profiling, measurement, validation, and troubleshooting activities; maintains color standards, libraries, and technical documentation; and partners with Production, Prepress, Quality, Continuous Improvement, and equipment or material vendors to resolve issues and improve performance. The technician helps ensure that color workflows are production-ready, scalable, and aligned with customer and brand expectations.

Color Calibration and Control:

Perform and maintain linearization, calibration, profiling, and verification routines for digital print devices, proofing systems, monitors, and related equipment in accordance with defined standards and tolerances.

Color Measurement and Validation:

Use spectrophotometers, densitometers, and color-management software to measure output, evaluate color difference, document results, and confirm that devices and materials meet established acceptance criteria.

Color Standards and Libraries:

Maintain ICC profiles, RIP settings, rendering intents, Pantone references, custom brand colors, substrates, ink sets, and other color-control assets to support consistent production across locations.

Issue Investigation and Resolution:

Troubleshoot routine color variation and print-quality issues, support root-cause analysis, document corrective actions, and elevate complex equipment, material, file, or process concerns to the appropriate technical partners.

Production and Prepress Support:

Partner with print operators, prepress, art, and production teams to confirm that files, proofs, equipment settings, and production conditions are color-correct and ready for execution.

Testing and Production Readiness:

Support test prints, material and ink evaluations, equipment trials, pilot runs, and validation of new tools or workflows before broader production implementation.

Multi-Site Standardization:

Reinforce common color-management procedures and verification routines across internal print operations; identify location-to-location variation and support actions that improve repeatability and consistency.

Performance Monitoring:

Track and report color-performance measures such as color difference, first-pass yield, rework, waste, calibration compliance, and recurring defect trends; provide data that supports prioritization and continuous improvement.

Documentation and Standard Work:

Create and maintain color-management SOPs, equipment profiles, troubleshooting guides, validation records, and other technical documentation required for reliable execution and knowledge transfer.

Training and Technical Support:

Provide day-to-day guidance to operators and production teams, assist with training on color best practices and measurement tools, and reinforce adherence to approved workflows and standards.

Vendor and Technology Support:

Coordinate with equipment, software, ink, substrate, and service vendors as needed to resolve issues, evaluate capabilities, and support implementation of color-related technology and process improvements.
