The Digitization and Digital Collections Services Unit (DDCS) at the Connecticut State Library (CSL) is seeking a Digital Collections Librarian (Librarian 1 - State Library). This position plays a key role in helping CSL preserve and provide access to the agency’s significant historic and cultural resources. As demand for online access to library collections continues to grow, the Digital Collections Librarian will support the ongoing expansion of digitization and digital collections initiatives that contribute to the long-term preservation of cultural resources and enhance public access to information.
Working under the direction of the Unit Head, the Digital Collections Librarian performs a variety of tasks related to managing CSL materials in digital collections systems. These tasks include but are not limited to: creating metadata records for digitized materials, following institutional guidelines and metadata standards, including the Metadata Object Description Schema (MODS); ingesting digitized materials into CSL’s digital collections; coordinating with other units to ensure the discoverability of digitized content; participating in metadata cleanup and normalization projects by reviewing existing records, correcting inconsistencies, updating controlled vocabulary terms, and ensuring compliance with metadata standards and institutional guidelines; helping to promote the work of DDCS through writing and editing web pages, creating and updating research guides, and proposing content ideas for social media; maintaining unit policies, standards, and workflows for metadata and ingest; and using digital tools to optimize and automate workflow processes.
The successful candidate shall possess a high attention to detail, the ability to work independently and manage their time effectively, a familiarity with digitization workflows, the ability to learn new technology, and strong communication skills.
