Job summary

Skill is seeking an experienced Archivist to support stewardship, preservation, and accessibility of a diverse archival collection in Beaverton, Oregon. This part-time, onsite role offers 16 hours per week and a temporary contract through May 2027.

You will organize collections, improve systems and documentation, and collaborate across teams to ensure archival integrity and accessible records for research and exhibitions.

Qualifications

  • 3-5+ years of experience in archives, records management, museums, or special collections.
  • Experience managing both physical and digital archival collections.
  • Strong knowledge of archival standards, cataloging, and metadata frameworks.
  • Experience with collection management systems or digital asset management tools.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.

Archivist (Part-Time, Onsite)

Location: Beaverton, OR
Schedule: 16 hours/week (2 days onsite)
Duration: Contract through May 2027

About the Role

We're seeking an experienced Archivist to support the stewardship, preservation, and accessibility of a dynamic archival collection spanning physical artifacts and digital assets. This role plays a key part in maintaining the integrity of historical, product, and corporate materials while ensuring best-in-class archival practices.

You’ll collaborate cross-functionally to organize collections, improve systems and documentation, and support both preservation and access initiatives.

What You’ll Do
Collection Management
  • Appraise, organize, and catalog archival materials following established best practices
  • Maintain and enhance collection management systems and documentation standards
  • Ensure accuracy, consistency, and accessibility of archival records
  • Support ongoing archival projects and collection initiatives
Preservation & Conservation
  • Conduct condition assessments and recommend proper storage and handling procedures
  • Support preservation planning and environmental best practices
  • Assist with artifact preparation for loans or exhibitions
Digital Archives & Systems
  • Maintain and improve metadata, taxonomy, and digital asset structures
  • Partner with internal teams to optimize tools, workflows, and archival systems
  • Support long-term digital preservation and accessibility strategies
Documentation & Training
  • Maintain and update archival policies, procedures, and handling guidelines
  • Create documentation to support archival operations and data governance
  • Provide guidance or training on archival best practices as needed
What You Bring
Required Qualifications
  • 3-5+ years of experience in archives, records management, museums, or special collections
  • Experience managing both physical and digital archival collections
  • Strong knowledge of archival standards, cataloging, and metadata frameworks
  • Experience with collection management systems or digital asset management tools
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Archival Studies, Library Science, Museum Studies, or related field
  • Experience developing archival policies, procedures, or metadata standards
  • Familiarity with collection management platforms (e.g., MuseumPlus or similar systems)
  • Experience supporting exhibitions, artifact loans, or archival research access
Additional Details
  • Must be able to lift and move materials up to 30 lbs
  • Comfortable working in archival storage environments (dust/allergens possible)
  • Occasional support for onsite archival or exhibition-related activities
