Job summary

Akicita Federal seeks a Dietitian/Nurse Educator to deliver integrated nutrition and health education services for the Indian Health Service community in Jicarilla, NM, across outpatient, inpatient, and community settings.

This role combines clinical dietary expertise with nurse educator responsibilities, promoting culturally appropriate nutrition and wellness practices to improve long-term health outcomes for IHS patients. Collaboration with the broader clinical team is essential.

Qualifications

Active, unrestricted license or registration as a RD/RDN and/or RN
CDE or CDHE Certification (Certified Diabetic Educator)
Degree in dietetics, nursing, or related healthcare field
Clinical experience in dietary counseling/health education in healthcare setting
Ability to work independently in IHS/outpatient/community health environment
Strong documentation skills; familiarity with EHR
Must be able to travel

Responsibilities

Provide individualized medical nutrition therapy and dietary counseling.
Develop culturally responsive health education programs targeting diabetes, obesity, and cardiovascular disease.
Perform nutritional assessments; interpret labs and translate findings into care plans with clinical team.
Educate patients, families, and community on disease prevention and healthy eating.
Document patient encounters and care plans in accordance with IHS standards.
Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other providers to integrate nutrition goals in treatment plans.
Participate in community outreach and wellness initiatives for the Jicarilla Apache community
