Job summary

Akicita Federal is hiring a Dietitian/Nurse Educator to provide integrated nutrition and health education for IHS patients in Jicarilla, NM. You will combine clinical dietary expertise with nurse education to improve long-term health outcomes across outpatient, inpatient, and community settings.

You will assess, educate, and collaborate with an interdisciplinary team, documenting encounters and care plans in EHRs, and traveling to outreach sites as needed.

Qualifications

• Active, unrestricted RD/RDN or RN license.
• CDE or CDHE certification required.
• Degree in dietetics or nursing.
• Clinical nutrition counseling experience.
• Willingness to travel.
• Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR).

Responsibilities

• Provide medical nutrition therapy and dietary counseling for chronic and acute conditions.

Akicita Federal is hiring a Dietitian/Nurse Educator to deliver integrated nutrition and health education services for the Indian Health Service (IHS) community in Jicarilla, NM. This role supports a federally served patient population by combining clinical dietary expertise with nurse educator responsibilities to improve long-term health outcomes. This role supports Indian Health Service (IHS) patients by promoting culturally appropriate nutrition and wellness practices across various clinical settings, including outpatient, inpatient, and community health.

Requirements and Responsibilities

• Provide individualized medical nutrition therapy and dietary counseling to patients across a range of chronic and acute conditions.
• - Develop and deliver culturally responsive health education programs targeting nutrition-related conditions such as diabetes, obesity, and cardiovascular disease.
• - Conduct nutritional assessments, interpret lab values, and translate findings into actionable care plans in coordination with the broader clinical team.
• - Educate patients, families, and community members on disease prevention, healthy eating practices, and self-management strategies.
• - Document patient encounters, education sessions, and care plan updates accurately and in compliance with IHS standards.
• - Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare providers to integrate nutrition and education goals into multidisciplinary treatment plans.
• - Participate in community outreach and wellness initiatives designed to address the specific health priorities of the Jicarilla Apache community.
• Active, unrestricted license or registration as a Registered Dietitian (RD/RDN) and/or Registered Nurse (RN) credential(s) appropriate to the dual dietitian/nurse educator scope of this role.
• - CDE or CDHE Certification required - Certified Diabetic Educator
• - Relevant degree in dietetics, nursing, or a closely related healthcare field.
• - Demonstrated clinical experience providing dietary counseling and/or patient health education in a healthcare setting.
• - Ability to work independently within an IHS or comparable federally operated outpatient/community health environment.
• - Strong documentation skills and familiarity with electronic health records (EHR).
• - Must be able to travel
