Job summary

UAB Medical West Hospital is seeking a Cook responsible for preparing and cooking a variety of meals that meet dietary requirements for staff and visitors. You will work closely with the Head Chef to develop nutritious menus and ensure hygienic presentation of all dishes.

The role emphasizes adherence to food safety practices, accurate recipe execution, and the ability to operate in a fast-paced kitchen environment while maintaining quality and efficiency.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in a fast-paced kitchen.
• Fluent English reading and speaking to follow recipes and communicate with the team.
• Excellent manual dexterity for handling utensils and equipment.
• Knowledge of food production techniques and following recipes accurately.
• Good physical stamina to stand for long periods and perform tasks requiring strength.
• Ability to climb stairs and lift/move heavy objects as needed.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and cook a wide variety of food items according to recipes and dietary requirements.
• Collaborate with the Head Chef to plan and develop menus that meet nutritional needs.
• Ensure all food items are prepared and presented hygienically and attractively.
• Monitor and maintain inventory of supplies and equipment; place orders as needed.
• Adhere to all food safety and sanitation guidelines to maintain a safe kitchen environment.
