Job summary

PACE Southeast Michigan is seeking a Dietary Associate to perform routine dietary tasks, including food preparation, meal service, and ensuring a clean, safe environment under the guidance of the Registered Dietitian and Center Manager.

The role requires ServSafe and CPR certifications, plus experience with frail or elderly populations and basic computer skills. Training and staff meetings are part of the schedule.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED is required.
• ServSafe Food Protection Manager Certification (ANSI) is required.
• Current CPR certification is required.
• Experience in long-term care or hospital food service is preferred.
• Basic computer skills (MS Outlook and MS Word) required.
• One year of experience serving a frail or elderly population is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist in food preparation and serve meals, snacks, beverages and nutrition supplements.
• Prepare meals according to diet orders and ensure timely service.
• Wash, sanitize and store dishes and adaptive feeding equipment.
• Receive and store food and supplies; label items properly.
• Maintain equipment and report malfunctions to supervisor.
• Follow infection control, fire safety and chemical handling procedures.

SUMMARY:

The Dietary Associate at PACE Southeast Michigan performs routine functions in the dietary department including food preparation, food service, cleaning and other duties assigned under the direction of the Registered Dietitian and Day Health Center Manager.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND FUNCTIONS:

• Assists in the preparation of food and is responsible for serving meals, snacks, beverages and nutrition supplements using portion control and applicable sanitation practices.
• Prepares meals in accordance to diet orders and ensures participants are served the appropriate meal in a timely manner.
• Washes, sanitizes and stores dishes and adaptive feeding equipment.
• Assists in receiving and storing food and supplies.
• Ensures proper labeling of food placed into storage.
• Ensures that equipment is maintained.
• Reports malfunctioning equipment to the Registered Dietitian.
• Follows fire safety, infection control practices and hazardous chemical practices, and uses cleaners and other hazardous materials in accordance with facility policy.
• Follow Federal and State regulations and Dietary Department policies and procedures.
• Follows cleaning schedules and perform cleaning duties as scheduled.
• Maintains a clean and safe work environment.
• Takes daily attendance and prepares tray tickets.
• Attends and participates in training, in-services and staff meetings.
• Performs all other duties assigned under the direction of the Registered Dietitian and Center Manager.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

• High School diploma or GED required.
• Current ServSafe Food Protection Manager Certification with the American National Standards Institution (ANSI) required.
• Current CPR card required.
• Long term care or hospital food service experience.
• Knowledge of basic computer skills (MS Outlook and MS Word) required.
• Must have one (1) year of experience working with a frail or elderly population.
• Knowledge of therapeutic diets parameters.
• Ability to establish and maintain interpersonal and interdepartmental relationships.
• Shows respect for the physical, spiritual, and well-being of participants and co-workers.
• Ability to problem solve and interpret instructions.
• Must be medically cleared for communicable diseases and have all immunizations up-to-date before engaging in direct participant contact.
• Must meet a standardized set of competencies (approved by CMS) before working independently.
• Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
• Ability to read and speak English.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, carry 25 pounds, and push/pull up to 50 pounds.
