Job summary

United Hospital Center seeks a Dietary Aide in Bridgeport, WV to support daily kitchen operations and patient food service. You will prep work areas, set up stations, ensure proper portions, and assist with batch food production while following menu cycles and FIFO practices.

The role emphasizes greet-and-serve duties, sanitation, and safety. A current Food Handlers card or ability to obtain one within 30 days is required, along with a high school diploma or equivalent.

Qualifications

• PIC training provided through the County Health Department.
• High school diploma or equivalent is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Prepares all work areas for operation per task assignment, including sanitizing solutions and clean cloths.
• Set-up area including utensils, restock, clean and organize assigned area; maintain cleanliness.
• Produces and maintains attractive, appetizing, and quality food and beverage products.
• Follows menu cycle, proper portions, and standardized recipes; uses leftovers with FIFO.
• Greets customers, takes orders politely, and serves customers efficiently.
• Addresses customer complaints in a polite, professional manner; seeks management assistance when needed.
• Cleans spills promptly and posts appropriate caution signage; removes trash.
• Merchandises area with clean, uncluttered, attractive and orderly arrangement.
• Ensures all activities meet sanitation, safety and quality control guidelines.
• Documents temperatures of refrigerators, dish machines, or other equipment; alerts management of malfunctions.
• Operates, cleans, and stores equipment properly.
• Stores and labels food items and chemicals correctly.

Minimum Qualifications

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE

• Current Food Handlers card OR obtained within 30 days of hire through ONE of the following, as required by County DHHR:
• StateFoodSafety.com
• Servsafe National Restaurant Association
• Local County Health Department

To be completed as established by department: (Administered at Department level)

• Person in Charge (PIC) training provided through the County Health Department.

Preferred Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.

CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Prepares all work areas for operation, per task assignment including filling bucket with sanitizing solution, and a clean wiping cloth. Maintain sanitizer strength throughout shift. Change as needed.
• Set-up area including utensils, restock, clean and organize assigned area maintaining cleanliness throughout the shift.
• Produces and maintains attractive, appetizing and quality food and beverage products.
• Follows menu cycle, proper portions and standardized recipes preparing food items in batch production. Utilizes leftovers, using the first in, first out method.
• Greets customers, politely asks for order and efficiently serves customer. Remains focused on the customer and service throughout the encounter.
• Addresses customer complaints in a polite professional manner. Seeks management assistance when needed.
• Cleans spills promptly and post appropriate caution signage. Removes trash from service areas promptly.
• Merchandises area through: Clean, uncluttered, attractive and orderly arrangement of work area.
• Ensures that all activities meet sanitation, safety and quality control guidelines set forth by departmental policies.
• Documents refrigerator, dish machine or other equipment temperatures as assigned. Alerts facilities and management of malfunctioning equipment.
• Properly operates, cleans and stores equipment in assigned area.
• Properly stores and labels food items and chemicals.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Ability to push fully loaded tray cart (approx. 250 lbs.).
• Ability to stand for extended periods of time.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT

• Requires patient interaction with some conditions/appearance that may be distressing.
• Enter isolation precaution patient rooms with proper protective equipment.
• Kitchen environment that is often noisy.

Skills And Abilities

• Ability to understand written and oral communication.
• Computer skills - know how to use basic computer components (keyboard, mouse, tablet) and basic computer applications such as Microsoft word.
• Telephone skills - know how to use speaker phones, headsets, and telephone etiquette.
