Position Overview

This position involves fundamental food service duties, including patient tray line (meal assembly), dish room, utilities (floors and trash), cafeteria server, and cold food production. The Dietetic Assistant will work as part of a team to deliver high-quality food and service to patients and customers.

Minimum Qualifications

Education, Certification, and/or Licensure:

  • For West Virginia locations (excluding Berkeley/Morgan County): Valid Food Service Worker Permit (FSWP) from the local health department prior to starting or a Temporary FSWP no later than the first day, with a permanent FSWP within 1 week or next available class.
  • For Ohio locations: Obtain a ServSafe Person In Charge certification within 90 days of hire.
  • For Maryland locations: Valid Food Service Worker Permit (FSWP) from the local health department, surrounding counties, ServSafe, or StateFoodSafety prior to starting, or a Temporary FSWP with a permanent FSWP within 1 week or next available class.
Preferred Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
Core Duties and Responsibilities

The following are general responsibilities and may include other duties:

  1. Prepare work areas for operation, including sanitizing and organizing.
  2. Set up work areas with utensils, restock, and maintain cleanliness.
  3. Produce attractive, quality food and beverages.
  4. Follow menu cycles, proper portions, and recipes; utilize leftovers efficiently.
  5. Greet and serve customers politely and efficiently.
  6. Address customer complaints professionally and seek management assistance when needed.
  7. Clean spills promptly and manage trash disposal.
  8. Maintain an attractive and orderly work environment.
  9. Ensure sanitation, safety, and quality standards are met.
  10. Monitor and document equipment temperatures and alert management of malfunctions.
  11. Operate, clean, and store equipment properly.
  12. Store and label food items and chemicals correctly.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to push fully loaded tray carts (~250 lbs).
  • Ability to stand for extended periods.
Work Environment
  • Interact with patients, including in distressing conditions.
  • Enter isolation rooms with proper protective equipment.
  • Work in a noisy kitchen environment.
Skills and Abilities
  • Understand written and oral communication.
  • Basic computer skills (keyboard, mouse, tablet, Microsoft Word).
  • Telephone etiquette and skills (speaker phones, headsets).
