Job summary

MercyOne Health System is hiring a Dietary Assistant to assist in providing high quality food service for patients of all ages. You will help assemble trays, deliver meals, maintain sanitation, and ensure safe handling of dishes and equipment.

The role requires flexibility, good communication, and adherence to safety and confidentiality policies, with rotating shifts and weekend/holiday rotation as part of the PRN schedule.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Ability to read, speak and follow simple oral and written instructions.
• Manual dexterity to operate foodservice equipment and dishwashing stations.

Responsibilities

• Assemble and deliver food trays/meals for patients/residents; work in the dish room.
• Communicate professionally and maintain confidentiality.
• Complete tasks with flexibility as assigned.
• Prepare patient trays according to guidelines and serve accurately.
• Maintain a safe and sanitary foodservice environment and sanitize equipment.
• Use appropriate chemicals for cleaning and sanitizing.
• Clean station and utensils, store dishes after washing.
• Clean dish machine and pots/pans area per procedure.

Join the MercyOne Family! We are looking to hire a Dietary Assistant. As a Dietary Assistant at MercyOne, you will assist in providing high quality and appropriate food service to meet the nutritional requirements of all age groups from infants to the elderly, by performing the following tasks:

• Assisting in the assembling and delivery of food trays/meals for patients/residents; working in the dish room and performing a variety of cleaning related duties.


• Demonstrating ability to participate in positive communication, confidentiality, and professional behavior.


• Demonstrating flexibility to complete tasks as assigned.


• Assisting in preparing patient/resident trays/meals by having station set up and/or having menu items prepared according to guidelines and serving accurately.


• Maintaining a safe and sanitary environment for foodservice and cleaning of equipment.


• Using appropriate chemicals for cleaning and sanitizing.


• Being responsible for cleanup of station, preparing dishes and utensils for washing, and properly storing dishes and utensils after washing.


• Cleansing dish machine and/or pots and pans area per procedure.

General Requirements

• Maintains a professional, collaborative work environment to foster a positive public image for MercyOne Medical Center.


• Knows and adheres to all laws and regulations pertaining to patient health, safety, food safety, and medical information (i.e. HIPAA, etc.).


• Ability to read, speak and follow simple oral and written instructions.


• Ability to perform simple calculations.


• Manual dexterity and motor coordination required to operate foodservice equipment, dish machine, pot/pan machine and serve foods on trayline and/or in Senior Care.


• Effective communication skills.


• Maintain a cordial and courteous attitude in contacts with co-workers, MercyOne staff, patients/residents and guests.

Education and Qualifications

Education: High school graduate or equivalent preferred.
