Job summary

The Dietary Aide is responsible for assisting in the preparation and serving of meals to residents or patients in a healthcare or long-term care facility. This role supports the dietary team by ensuring that food is served according to dietary requirements and guidelines, maintaining a clean and safe dining environment, and providing excellent customer service to residents and patients. The Dietary Aide plays an essential role in promoting health and well-being through nutritious meals.Key Responsibilities:Meal Preparation and Service:Assist in preparing and serving meals according to established menus and dietary guidelines, including special diets such as diabetic, low-sodium, or gluten-free.Ensure that food is served in an attractive and timely manner, following portion control and resident preferences.Prepare food trays, deliver meals to residents or patients, and assist with food delivery to common areas or individual rooms as needed.Dietary Compliance:Follow dietary instructions for residents or patients with specific medical needs, ensuring that meals meet their nutritional requirements.Ensure proper portion sizes and follow meal plans to accommodate dietary restrictions and preferences.Sanitation and Safety:Maintain cleanliness and sanitation in the kitchen and dining areas, including washing dishes, cleaning tables, and sanitizing equipment.Follow all food safety regulations and facility policies to ensure a clean and safe environment for food preparation and service.Ensure that kitchen and dining areas meet local, state, and federal food safety regulations.Inventory and Supplies:Assist in maintaining and restocking food supplies, condiments, and utensils as needed.Monitor inventory levels and notify the dietary supervisor when supplies need to be ordered.Resident and Patient Interaction:Provide excellent customer service to residents, patients, and families, responding to questions and special requests promptly and courteously.Help residents and patients with meal-related needs, such as serving beverages, providing additional utensils, or addressing dietary concerns.Team Collaboration:Work closely with cooks, dietary supervisors, and other kitchen staff to ensure the efficient and smooth operation of meal service.Assist with kitchen duties, including food preparation and setup for meals.Education: High school diploma or equivalent preferred.Experience: Previous experience in food service or a healthcare environment is preferred but not required.
