Description

General Purpose

The dietary aide's assignments are determined based on the activity during the shift. He/she reports to the Cook and Dietary Supervisor.

Essential Duties

  1. Must be able to learn food service routines quickly.
  2. Set up meal trays.
  3. Strip down returned trays and start washing dishes.
  4. Assist with serving different meals.
  5. Check and record chlorine concentration and water temperature of the dishwashing machine at the beginning of the shift.
  6. Observe water temperatures during dishwashing cycles.
  7. Operate the dishwasher.
  8. Prepare nourishments and snacks.
  9. Sweep and mop the kitchen.
  10. Carry out trash and garbage disposal.
  11. Store groceries in a safe, orderly, and clean manner.
  12. Maintain cleanliness and sanitation in the kitchen and assist the cook or dietary supervisor when needed.
  13. Clean work surfaces and refrigerators.
  14. Sweep, mop, and maintain floors.
  15. Participate in orientation and ongoing training of dietary staff.
  16. Work cooperatively with personnel in all departments.

Supervisory Requirements

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications

  • Education and/or Experience: High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Language Skills: Ability to read technical procedures, follow recipes, and present information effectively.
  • Mathematical Skills: Ability to apply fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions.
  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and interpret instructions.
  • Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Must obtain and maintain a food handler's certificate.

Physical Demands

Requires standing and walking frequently, sitting occasionally, reaching, pushing/pulling, talking, hearing, tasting, smelling, and lifting up to 50 pounds. Occasional climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling. Good vision and focus are necessary.
