Dietary Aide

DEPARTMENT: Dietary

REPORTS TO: Dietary Manager

WAGE: Non-Exempt

General Purpose:

Assist in food preparation and serving; maintain clean and sanitary conditions in the kitchen and dining areas under the supervision of the Dietary Manager or Cook.

Essential Job Functions:

This facility expects their employees to promote an atmosphere of teamwork with other employees and hospitality and comfort for its residents. Therefore, the following list of duties is not all-inclusive:

Food Preparation, Serving and Cleaning

1. Assist in the preparation and serving of meals and snacks.
2. Assist in checking trays for menu and diet preferences and accuracy.
3. Set up trays and deliver meals to residents.
4. Set up serving line with cold foods, condiments, serving containers, dishes, silverware, etc. according to the menus and as instructed.
5. Work on central tray service line, placing appropriate food on general and modified diet trays, as directed.
6. Deliver loaded food carts to corridor and return unloaded carts to dish washing unit.
7. Collect soiled trays and utensils from dining room tables and transport them to dish washing area.
8. Wash dishes, clean equipment, wipe off dining room and worktables, clean utensils, pots and pans; mop floors in dietary, etc., as assigned.
9. Clean and maintain kitchen and food preparation equipment as assigned.
10. Wash, sanitize, and store trays, dishes and utensils.

Supply

1. Stock and store food items as assigned.
2. Maintain a level of food and supplies adequate for the next meal and assist in inventorying and storing incoming foods and supplies.
3. Report hazardous conditions, equipment, accidents and incidents, as necessary.

Other duties

1. Attend in-service education programs in order to meet facility educational requirements.
2. Be familiar with Standard Precautions, Exposure Control Plan, Fire Drill & Evacuation Procedures and know how to use the information.
3. Maintain confidentiality of resident and facility records/information.
4. Protect residents from neglect, mistreatment, and abuse.
5. Protect the personal property of the residents of the facility.
6. Others as directed by the supervisor or administrator.

Minimum Qualifications:

1. Experience in hospital or skilled nursing facility dietary department preferred.
2. Organized and detailed in work performance.
3. Good communication skills with excellent self-discipline and patience.
4. Genuine caring for and interest in elderly and disabled people in a nursing facility.
5. Comply with the Residents' Rights and Facility Policies and Procedures.
6. Perform work tasks within the physical demand requirements as outlined below.
7. Perform Essential Duties as outlined above.

Working Conditions:

1. Subject to frustrations in meeting work demands due to frequent interruptions.
2. Fast paced, required to make decisions quickly.
3. Involved with residents, personnel, visitors, government agencies/personnel, etc., under all conditions and circumstances.
4. May work beyond normal duty hours, on weekends, and in other positions temporarily, when necessary.
5. Subject to call-back during emergency conditions (e.g., severe weather, evacuation, post-disaster, etc.).
6. Subject to exposure to infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc., including TB and the AIDS and Hepatitis B viruses.
7. May be subject to the handling of and exposure to hazardous chemicals.

Physical and Sensory Requirements:

1. Assist in the evacuation of residents during emergency situations.
2. Meet general health requirements set forth by the policies of this facility, which may include a medical and physical examination.

Sitting: 1-2 hours per 8 hour work shift. Alternates frequently to walking.

Walking: 1-2 hours per 8 hour work shift. Alternates frequently to standing and occasionally to sitting.

Standing: 5-7 hours per 8 hour work shift. Alternating frequently to walking.
