The Dietary/Food Service Aide performs specific tasks in the Food Service Department, including assisting in keeping the dining and cooking areas clean, sanitary, and running smoothly.

Responsibilities
  • Food Standards:
    • Complete all assignments related to daily food preparation such as tray assembly positions according to department procedures.
    • Prepare, pour, or portion hot or cold items such as desserts, beverages, toast, salads, sandwiches, garnishes, etc.
    • Maintain proper food handling, safety, and sanitation standards.
    • Prepare and deliver food to resident floors and set up patient trays.
    • Deliver and retrieve resident trays following departmental procedures.
    • Handle soiled trays and dishes, and return cleaned items to proper places.
    • Understand various diets and serve trays according to patient restrictions.
  • Infection Control:
    • Wash hands frequently and before returning or starting work.
    • Wear gloves as per policy, and remove/reapply when appropriate.
    • Cover hair completely when serving and preparing food.
    • Maintain proper water temperatures.
  • Quality Control:
    • Follow cleaning schedules and keep floors dry.
    • Store supplies properly and report hazards or equipment issues.
    • Ensure tray checks comply with diet modifications and meet productivity standards.
  • Sanitation:
    • Handle food according to sanitary regulations.
    • Clean and maintain dining areas, equipment, and food contact surfaces.
    • Prepare dishes for washing and store them properly.
    • Maintain cleanliness of floors and equipment.
    • Report safety or equipment problems immediately.
    • Dispose of garbage properly.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED preferred.
