General Purpose

The dietary aide's assignments are determined based on the needs of each shift's activity. He/she reports to the Cook and Dietary Supervisor.

Essential Duties

  1. Must be able to learn food service routines quickly.
  2. Set up meal trays.
  3. Strip down returned trays and start washing dishes.
  4. Assist with serving various meals.
  5. Check and record chlorine concentration and water temperature of the dishwashing machine at the beginning of each shift.
  6. Monitor water temperatures during dishwashing cycles.
  7. Operate the dishwasher.
  8. Prepare nourishments and snacks.
  9. Sweep and mop the kitchen area.
  10. Handle trash and garbage disposal.
  11. Store groceries safely, orderly, and cleanly.
  12. Leave the kitchen clean and sanitary; assist the cook or dietary supervisor as needed.
  13. Clean work surfaces and refrigerators.
  14. Sweep, mop, and maintain floors.
  15. Participate in orientation and ongoing training of dietary staff.
  16. Work cooperatively and harmoniously with personnel across all departments.

Supervisory Requirements

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience: High school diploma or equivalent.

Language Skills: Ability to read technical procedures and recipes; effectively communicate with managers and staff.

Mathematical Skills: Ability to apply fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions in practical situations.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and interpret instructions in various formats.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Must obtain and maintain a food handler's certificate.

Physical Demands: Standing, walking, reaching, pushing/pulling frequently; lifting up to 50 pounds; occasional climbing, stooping, kneeling; good vision and focus.

Work Environment: Usually low to moderate noise level; accommodations available for disabilities.
