Job description

General Purpose: The dietary aide's assignments are determined based on the activity during the shift.

Reports To: The dietary aide reports to the Cook and Dietary Supervisor.

Essential Duties
  • Learn food service routines quickly.
  • Set up meal trays.
  • Strip down returned trays and start washing dishes.
  • Assist with serving meals.
  • Check and record water temperature and chlorine concentration of the dishwashing machine at the start of the shift.
  • Monitor water temperatures during dishwashing cycles.
  • Prepare nourishments and snacks.
  • Sweep and mop the kitchen.
  • Dispose of trash and garbage properly.
  • Store groceries safely and neatly.
  • Maintain a clean and sanitary kitchen environment and assist the cook or dietary supervisor as needed.
  • Clean work surfaces and refrigerators.
  • Sweep, mop, and maintain floors.
  • Participate in orientation and ongoing training of dietary staff.
  • Work cooperatively with personnel across departments.
Supervisory Requirements

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to read and follow recipes and technical procedures.
  • Effective communication skills to present information and respond to questions from managers and staff.
  • Mathematical skills including fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions.
  • Problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to interpret instructions in various formats (written, oral, diagram, schedule).
Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations

Must obtain and maintain a food handler's certificate.

Physical Demands

The role requires frequent standing, walking, reaching, pushing, pulling, talking, hearing, tasting, and smelling. Capable of lifting up to 50 pounds. Occasionally climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling. Good visual perception is necessary.

Work Environment
