Position Summary

Under the direction of the Manager, Nutrition Services or Nutrition Services Supervisor and coordination of the Cook, Lead Hand or Clerk, the Dietary Aide is responsible for performing activities related to food service assembly, production, and distribution, with emphasis on portion control, waste control, sanitation, and safety. Ensures all food preparation adheres to menu and therapeutic specifications and maintains cleanliness of preparation and service areas. Monitors food temperatures and leftovers, operates cash register, and handles related procedures.

Responsibilities
  • Assists in training and orientation of Nutrition Services staff and students.
  • Ensures familiarity with diets, reference materials, and technical terms used in Nutrition Services.
  • Adheres to approved menu and therapeutic guidelines for diet preparation and serving.
  • Adjusts client menus as directed in consultation with supervisors or dietitians.
  • Prepares food items such as toast, cereal, salads, sandwiches, desserts, and beverages.
  • Assembles and serves meals according to portion standards.
  • Delivers food carts/trays and collects soiled trays/dishes.
  • Sets, clears, and sanitizes dining tables.
  • Prepares and delivers items for catered functions.
  • Performs cashier duties.
  • Washes dishes and maintains sanitation standards.
  • Maintains sanitary conditions and cleans equipment.
  • Follows safety procedures for equipment and tasks.
  • Ensures equipment is clean and operational.
  • Labels, dates, and stores or discards leftovers appropriately.
  • Monitors and orders supplies as directed.
  • Maintains stock levels and assists with inventory and quality control audits.
  • Sundry duties as assigned.
