Dietary Aide/Cook (Food Services)



General Purpose

The dietary aide assignments are determined based on the needs of the shift activity. He/she reports to the Cook and Dietary Supervisor.

Essential Duties

  • Must be able to learn food service routines quickly.
  • Set up meal trays.
  • Strip down returned trays and start washing dishes.
  • Assist with serving meals.
  • Check and record chlorine concentration and water temperature of the dishwashing machine at the beginning of the shift.
  • Observe water temperatures during dishwashing cycles.
  • Operate the dishwasher.
  • Prepare nourishments and snacks.
  • Sweep and mop the kitchen.
  • Handle trash and garbage.
  • Store groceries in a safe, organized, and clean manner.
  • Maintain a clean and sanitary kitchen environment and assist as needed.
  • Clean work surfaces and refrigerators.
  • Sweep, mop, and maintain floors.
  • Participate in orientation and ongoing training of dietary staff.
  • Work cooperatively with personnel across departments.

Supervisory Requirements

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications

  • Education and/or Experience: High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Language Skills: Ability to read technical procedures and follow recipes; effective communication with managers and staff.
  • Mathematical Skills: Ability to apply fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions.
  • Reasoning Ability: Solve practical problems and interpret various instructions.
  • Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Must obtain and maintain a food handler's certificate.

Physical Demands

Requires standing and walking frequently, sitting occasionally, reaching, pushing/pulling, talking, hearing, tasting, smelling, and lifting up to 50 pounds. Occasional climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling. Good visual perception including focus adjustment.
