Job summary

Briarcliff Health and Rehabilitation in South Bend, IN is seeking a friendly Dietary Aide to join our food service team. You will help prepare and serve meals, keep the dining room clean, and interact with residents.

No experience required—we will train you and support your growth in a caring, mission‑driven environment. Responsibilities include setting up dining areas, delivering meal trays per resident diets, maintaining safety and sanitation, and assisting with meal selections.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required or preferred.
• Food handler certification required or must obtain within 30 days.
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
• Reliable, punctual, and a strong team player.
• Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 30 lbs.
• No experience required — we will train you.

Responsibilities

• Set up and break down the dining room before and after each meal service
• Deliver meal trays to residents according to dietary orders
• Verify each tray is correct before delivery
• Assist residents with meal selection and accommodate preferences
• Wash, sanitize, and store dishes and kitchen equipment
• Clean and sanitize prep surfaces and dining areas
• Label, date, and store food items using FIFO
• Monitor and record food temperatures per safety guidelines
• Restock dining room and kitchen supplies
• Report resident food refusals or low intake to the nurse or Dietary Manager

What You'll Do

• Set up and break down the dining room before and after each meal service

• Deliver meal trays to residents according to their individual dietary orders and tray tickets

• Verify each tray is correct before delivery — right resident, right diet, every time

• Assist residents with meal selection and accommodate food preferences

• Wash, sanitize, and properly store dishes, utensils, and kitchen equipment

• Clean and sanitize food prep surfaces, countertops, and the dining room after each meal

• Label, date, and store food items properly using FIFO rotation

• Monitor and record food and equipment temperatures per food safety guidelines

• Restock dining room and kitchen supplies as needed

• Report resident food refusals or low intake to the nurse or Dietary Manager promptly

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED preferred — will consider all applicants

• Prior food service experience a plus — not required

• Food Handler Certification required or must obtain within 30 days of hire

• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions including diet orders

• Reliable, punctual, and a strong team player

• Compassionate and patient when interacting with elderly residents

• Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 30 lbs

• Ability to work rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays
