Job Description

Responsible for safe food handling in the preparation and serving of food to our customers and interact positively in a team environment by assisting coworkers with scheduled work demands. Will work with a variety of diets, equipment cleaners, and sanitizers. Will perform a variety of cleaning-related duties after meals.

12 Hours Shifts - 3 per week is Full time

Minimum Qualifications
  • High School or GED preferred.
  • Previous experience preferred.
  • Must demonstrate kindness, tactfulness, consideration, and confidentiality when dealing with residents/patients and co-workers.

Ability to work beyond normal hours, including weekends and holidays, as necessary. Work at all locations within Good Samaritan Hospital Association.

Job Responsibilities
  • Transfer supplies from kitchen to floor area, ensuring all items are available for timely and efficient meal service.
  • Prepare food and non-food items in advance, including wrapped flatware, beverages, thickened liquids, supplements, adaptive equipment, and special foods according to nutritional plans.
  • Monitor food and equipment temperatures to ensure safety.
  • Prepare desserts and salads for general and therapeutic diets according to production sheets.
  • Serve foods according to portion control and planned menus, accommodating individual needs.
  • Communicate any needed changes to the Dietitian.
  • Obtain meal preferences from patients and residents.
  • Ensure food is stored, prepared, and served under sanitary conditions and maintained at appropriate temperatures.
  • Stock serving areas with supplies such as condiments, cups, cereals, and utensils.
  • Check refrigerators and cabinets for supplies.
  • Prepare coffee cart items and pass snacks to patients when scheduled.
  • Maintain production sheets.
  • Strive for continual quality improvement through patient interviews.
  • Operate cash register and computer systems for payroll and menu programs.
  • Maintain a clean and sanitary workstation.
  • Attend scheduled department meetings and complete annual education.
  • Assist with dishwashing tasks.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Work Conditions

Work in a well-lit, warm, and humid kitchen environment. Collaborate with dietary staff, nursing staff, residents, and their families. Will include weekend shifts and some holidays.

Physical Demands

Require corrected vision and normal hearing. Ability to distinguish letters, numbers, symbols, and colors. Full range of motion, manual dexterity, and eye-hand coordination required. Standing and walking for extended periods, lifting up to 50 pounds, pushing carts weighing 100-200 pounds, and frequent bending and stretching are necessary. Must work under stressful conditions and rapid workflow.
